  1. Imagine going there with some cash and picking up about four cars, cause the prices are so low,and holding on to them til the market gets back up! You could make some HUGE buckage!!!! Or pick up something you want on the cheap!!!

  2. I HATE when they say "here's another Chevy Custom",and it's a billeted-up 56 Chevy with BIG wheels! PUKE....70k! I bet the guy who was selling it shit his pants....bet he had twice that in it...

  3. That was a real nice Flatty,Roadster! 50k! Couldn't build it for that...

Lots of bargains and cars selling for much much less than you could build them for. WOW prices are low in my opinion. Restored boss 302's for $50K, a nice 37 Ford 2 door sedan street rod with a period hump back trailer for $23K, a Real Hemi Coronet RT for $54K. I saw a rusted POS Hemi coronet barn find sell 2 years ago for that.

Jut took a break from watching it. Sure is a lot of empty seats in the place and prices seem to be a lot less than their other overpriced auctions have been in the past.

I sure would hate to be the guys who were sitting on these...decided to cash in on the first vegas sale, and watch the economy go to hell right before their cars were going into a "no reserve" auction. There you go...another camaro...red

It's good to see prices coming back into check. Hard to believe all the empty seats. That 29 roadster was REAL nice for 50k.

  13. Thanx for the heads up Bob, I watched again tonite and some of the prices were affordable, not in my poor ass range, but in the big boys range. We know what it costs to do these rigs and very few were bringing fair value. The undercariage camera is really a great one on this venue. Craig Jackson was constantly chiming in, saying great buy on this one etc.~Sololobo~

  14. Did you see the Boyd built fairly traditional (except for the damn electric fan) 32 Roadster that just went to Ron Pratt for $120k. One of Scotty's cars. Reputed to have been $200k to build.
That's right Boyd and traditional on the same sentence

Granted, B-J is the worst possible "barometer" to be judging by, but take a look at some of the auction listing pictures for those "awesome deals". The '37 Ford has one of the ugliest interiors I've ever seen, and it's still a 2 door sedan. The Hemi Coronet says "engine is not numbers matching" which I take to mean the car didn't come with a Hemi.

Check out the underhood pics of that '56 Lincoln, there's a big chunk of duct tape holding a wire to the firewall. It's a neat car but it's unrestored, I think 10K was fair but not a steal.

As for the stuff that brought a lot, the '74 T/A is a 455 Super Duty. Were it a '73 it probably would have brought 100K plus. Those are exceptionally rare and desirable. The Buick wagon, I'm not sure what is going on there, other than it says the car is being sold by General Motors and "title is in transit". Maybe it's a new car, had never been sold yet?

People aren't going shithouse crazy on the stuff because it's not that great. Those guys who drop 100K or more know what they're looking at, even if some of us don't want to believe it. I'm seeing typical auction prices for typical auction cars. Don't think so? Prove me wrong.

went to the BJ today, mainly to figure out what kind of cars wifey likes..(shoebox chevy's.......... :( not my bag of tea but she lets me spend money on this hobby ...) and she liked the boyd caddy, I agree, up close inspection the rides left a lot to be desired.one was leaking something allll over the post sales tent. the JFK linc was unique and what ever the HUGE red 12 cyl thing was.. I mean that this was BIG!!

but as a whole fit and finish was down!

Any auction I feel is a bad barometer to jusge a cars value. The bidders are given free liquor, the sellers have to be willing to sell at "No Reserve", and the cars are not really given alot of time on the block.
Some of the buyers are there just for the sport. They fly in and bring there friends and then like to show them that they have a lot of disposable income that they can spend while on National televsion, and in front of there buddies or S.O.
I have been to Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, and it was a car event that I can say I have been to. It was fun to people watch, and visit the vendors booths.
But I would not go there to buy or sell a car.

I was down there today. Some nice stuff. I was actually kinda impressed by the boyd roadster. I didnt know he built that. Took a bunch of pictures. I will have to post them tomorrow. One thing is for sure though on alot of those cars. The lights and TV cameras do wonders for those vechicles. Some of the ones I saw last night and the night before on TV when looking at them up close are drastically different.

that black roadster i think it was black? was built on TV.. they had a HELL ova time getting the tripower to run right.

  21. Ok, I thought I saw the General Lee go for 450,000, Was I watching a old show? The best part was when the owner (the guy from The Dukes of Hazzard) couldn't find the hood release.

  22. Vegas is nothing like Scottsdale! Last year ,when the economy was up,EVERYTHING was over the top! The prices at Vegas are way lower than I have ever seen it. Some of those restored cars have double what they are selling for,in them. It's just entertainment for me. I don't use the prices to reflect the market.
Haven't seen any mororcycles yet. Last year there was more than one,Custom 120k plus Choppers going for 40k,LOL.....

  23. You can't buy your own car back, part of the deal. You can pull it anytime before it hits the block. you have fees to pay if you do this. You can have your spouse or a buddy bid on it to get it back if you don't like the price its bringing, but you still have all those fees plus buyer and seller fees, so you better be damn sure you are tired of the car. Nearly all of the nice cars, wheather at vegas, scottsdale or palm beach bring less than it cost to build.

I hate that auction and prety much any "collector car" auction. They artificially inflate the prices of all old cars to the point where regular guys like me, and most of you, can't afford them.

But my biggest problem is that people buy old cars and trucks for an investment and not because they love them. I said it back in the early '90s when old car prices went insane and I'll say it again; I hope that everyone who buys an old car or truck as an investment looses their ass on it.

  26. Yes you can buy it back- have sold @ Barrett for the past 6 years (never had to buy 1 back) but you can. It does cost both sides of the commision and the entry though
I.E.-- on a 100,000 buy back it cost 20 % + the entry of $1500==$21500 to own yer own car as they have had the title for about 3 - 4 months.

  27. I sure don't agree with this. Every old car is an investment and if you and your spouse keep track of your finances, all expenditures are subject to decisions of where your money is wisely invested. I sure wouldn't buy a house and repair and improve it because I liked pounding nails, and not consider whether it was a wise investment. Hotrods can be fun and a good investment, and wise husbands will take all factors into consideration.

Didnt really get my attention and i guess i missed any hot rods . Wrong time of the year to be sitting in front of the wide screen all day and all night :)..... What I did see it seemed like the prices were wacked out and extremely high or low.. I saw just a little bit last night cause i was full of pizza and tired from playing in the woods all day and half drunk (gotta mention that and keep my image up for a certian individaul) but i sure liked the tripple black 66 chevelle convert. But id naver have payed that kind of cash for it..

I totally agree and will go one step further. All of you that support it and think its cool are simply supporting a big fat rape of the hobby.

Ya it's all good when you get greedy and sell your car.
How about when your sons or grandsons want to get into it?

Hoping old cars drop in value is foolish in many ways ..

    1) It shows the general state of the countrys financial affairs , 1000's of old american made cars are leaving the USA on a daily basis and being shipped overseas

    2) As the value drops of the cars / trucks ..The the people / shops, etc.
that provide parts and services to support the industry can no longer sell or have customers and its a snowball affect ..

I have to wonder if people think that a never restored 32 3-window will suddenly pop up for sale for $2500 cause now prices are dropping and now
    "I can afford one" ..

no one should celebrate someone's loss . of any kind
