Are you staying? My buddy has a beachside condo in Ft. Lauderdale, and is staying! I wish him the best, and you too if you decide not to evacuate!!

I live in rural Hardee county;SE of Tampa. Charley destroyed about 75% of the housing to the stage that it will be razed. We are about to be hit again. I have cars and parts that have been outside since the charley and will really catch it now. My cars were my retirement plan,o well.

It looks like this one may dodge the Tampa/St. Pete area again. We'll definately catch the tropical storm force areas of it, but maybe not the eye.

I'm going to go outside tomorrow evening and threatin it just to be sure.

East coast'ers and north central folks need to get in your rabbit holes! It looks like it's gonna cut accross Lakeland, and head to the panhandle.

  9. I hope all you guys stay safe. My friend just flew home today as his school (Embry-Riddle) told the campus to evacuate....I hope it turns out to not be quite as bad as they are expecting. Good luck and God be with all of you.

Well, I'm in Indianapolis working at the 50th NHRA US Natioanls, been up here in Detriot on Monday, here in Indy today. Spoke to my little wife a couple of hours ago, and well...I found a flight to St. Petersburg @ 7AM, so I'm heading for home, so we can grad our ***es with both hands and hang on. If it goes like they think it will, it's headed across the state to our house.
    Talk to ya tomarrow afternoon.

  20. Just got this message from a friend in Daytona Beach....

"This one is supposed to be much stronger than the one a couple of weeks ago, and the eye is twice as big (35 miles across) and it is headed straight for us. If you look at the east coast of Florida there is a little bump-out about half way up. That is Cocoa beach (cape canaveral, Brevard County) and I am just north of there Volusia County. I used to work directly across from the shuttle launch area. The Weather Channel has a guy reporting from Daytona.

My part of Daytona is a barrier island seperated from the mainland by the intercoastal waterway.

I spent all day yesterday bagging sand (2 cubic yards around 2000 pounds) My little chevy truck sure had its *** on the ground bringing the load home. Today I helped a few neighbors bag sand again and then pulled the awnings off my house and getting wood and hardware to brace up the garage door and windows. Stocked up on vital supplies like water and Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts in case we have no electric again.

They may order us to evacuate the area like they did a few years ago. Unless it looks really serious I will stay here. This is a 1960s cement block house and pretty strong. I will put a few valuble things in the car trunk as a added protection in case i loose windows or the roof. It is already a zoo around town. the roads are packed with people evacuating. "Petrol" stations have "no Gas" signs. I just came from the hardware store and it is crazy.

I'll do as much as I can within reason and see what happens. Actually I would be happier if the storm cleaned this place to the ground instead of just messing things up. I have no desire to clean up wet carpet and books etc. They just today picked up the storm debris from the last hurricane. I was worried that pile of **** would start flying around and end up coming through the house. The monster is tucked away and under cover and waiting it out."

Good luck to all of our HAMB'ers down there in Florida, be sure to post updates if you all can.

    Dave

you all take care down there. I am sure you all will be enjoying the weather while I am dealing with the minus degree temps and short days this winter. It is all a trade off as to where you feel comfortable

Thanks for your thoughts. Just pulled it up on the computer when I got to work and at least it has dropped to a category 2 hurricane as of now.
Have every thing battened down and now will just wait and see what happens.
dv8-when you threaten it this morning, yell at it for me also.
It would be nice if it just headed up north and disapated in the Atlantic. 2 in two weeks is a little too much.
If any of the Fla hambers need any help after it is over, pm me and I'll see what I can do.
    Take care and cover up.

My Mom was coming here to visit us at our new place and to see her grandchild..not any more......She phoned yesterday and has to stay and prepare her home(she lives in Boca.)She is a widow and the fella who was going to do here stormwindows has backed out.She told me the grocery stores are nearly empty and trying to get wood and supplies at the local hardware stores is next to impossable......

  24. The worst part of this is going to be where Charley's and Frances's paths are gonna cross. The debris from Charley is piled up and going to be tossed into what's left of Polk County. THIS ****S!!!!!

I live just west of I95 and the traffic is doing better up here today, but expect a crawl below us, I can see 95 outside of my office and its moving.

Everyone here is just waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I got my plywood ready and gas grill filled. I built my shop to withstand 120mph winds and the house is brick.

After living in Fla for 41 yrs you really get tired of this ****. [IMG]

  27. I am in gainesvile in a concrete block house. We should be pretty safe. If ANYONE NEEDS A PLACE LET ME KNOW. We got plenty of room. I-75 is busy as hell north bound and we are running low on gas at the stations off the interstate. If you are headed north you might take the the back roads (441 ect) If anyone stops at any Gainesville exits for gas dont hesitate to drive into town a little to find gas. Most local roads are easy to backtrack to the interstate on.

Anyone heard how the Bahamians are fairing? I wouldn't wanna be on any of those small Islands with 140 mph winds busting through there.

There is not much there to begin with.

Looks like we are going to get it here in Tally-town on Monday. Hopefully it loses some steam by then.

In the mean time, we are renting a house on St. George Island this weekend and are going to party it up until Sunday!

Good luck to everyone in South/Central FL.
