This guy has a General Lee Fan-Site and recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Blues Brothers (Yes, 25 years!!) by taking his "Bluesmobile" to the shopping mall where they filmed the indoor chase sequence of the movie..... Check out the movie at http://209.43.123.28/ Dave
Not to get technical, but I thought that they let them crash through the mall because they were actually planning on tearing it down? But yes, the blues brothers kick ass!
"It's a 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.....Hit it!" Yep...definately on the best movies IMHO
. That's sweeeet! My favorite movie of all time as well. As a kid, I had a second hand black sharkskin suit and a pork pie hat. I have Matt Guitar Murphy's autograph on my Gibson SG. Me and a buddy would drive to Chicago and find landmarks... never had the balls to drive through Daly Plaza though! Man, I am a dork. Thanks for the link, OT though it may be. My Dad and bro will get a big kick out of this!
E "Shit!" J "What?" E "Rollers." J "No?" E "Yeah." J "Shit" E "He's probably got SCMODS" J "SCMODS? What's SCMODS?" E "State County Municipal Offender Database System" And, of course, the most overquoted line from the movie: E "We're on a mission from God"
this story was in this monthes Hot rod(sorry parents got me a 5 year sub as a gift) said mall was still closed & falling down
I went to see the band play in Birmingham UK back in the late eighties. What a blast. The curtain came up and Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper were on stage playing Booker T's 'Green Onions'...I nearly shit. They then introduced the rest of the band from the film on to the stage one at a time. The only exceptions were Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi (obviously) and the drummer and keyboard player, everybody else was as the film. It was fucking superb. It was over 16 years ago and I still get a tingle when I think back.
there was a fire there about two months or so ago.... but up until that point it just sat there......all boarded up...... harvey police built a big ass police station in the parking lot........ i'll drive by tonite and see how it looks now.......
The Blues Brothers Band was pretty much a who's who of R&B music, sooo much talent all on one stage. Most folks who saw the movie had no clue about that (including 17 year old me at the time). "The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year."
Camio's of Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were giving their carreers a second wind and New hits. Plus reviving old classics like "Rawhide" on their soundtrack..., Great movie to buy as well as my other favorite..., "Animal House"...!!!! I was watching them film some of the "Nazi" chase scenes on the Milwaukee freeway system..., they used the "Dan Howen Bridge to No-where" for the Pinto Wagon freefall...! Three days work for 18 seconds film...! Great work if you can get it...!
Wasn't that Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Memory's getting worse these days, but don't remember that in Animal House..
Well its about time someone brought up the Blues Brothers on this board. I see mentions to that movie around here all the time and it seems us fans are still going strong. Also my favorite movie of all time. By far. Without a doubt. It has influenced me in more ways than I can count. Thanks for the post, Mike
And don't forget that a young Steven Speilberg was the employee eating his sandwich at the tax collecters office.
Must say, my all time fave too. That's where my eclectic music love started. "Boys, when ya gonna learn not to talk to nuns like that?" Jay
"illinois nazi's? i hate nazi's"" "orange whip? orange whip? 3 orange whips!" jeez, now i gotta watch it again. this thread is crackin' me up!
One of my favorites also. That movie also influenced me. A friend and I dressed up as Jake and Elwood for a Haloween party. We even bought a '77 Pontiac Bonneville 4 door and painted it up like the Bluesmobile. We got it for $200 dollars and it had a '70 400 in it. I ended up learning how to play the harmonica and we did performaces for weddings and benefits. The car lasted for 4 years before the frame rusted away. It didn't help that we drove it around like the real Bluesmobile. The motor ended up going in the '65 GTO.
The group of stunt people were called the "Hollywood War Babies"...!!!!! I think that they had over 200 stuntpeople for that film....!!!
The dvd I have with The Blues Brothers extended edition (like an extra 11 mins!!) has a documentary on it, says they trashed something like 240 Police cruisers... Five Grand, no problem, we'll have it for you in the morning....... Dave
They just did this last weekend!!! A guy in my car clube went with them, there is a police station in the mall parking lot he said and it still took the cops an hour and a half to come see what they were doing after they "broke in" to the mall. You should hear the stories he told me from this road trip!!! apparently the mall is going to be demolished VERY soon and they wanted to do this before it was gone. Roy Caruthers Exiles Indy
