I'm in the process of some horse trading with some cars and parts right now and one of the cars that I might wind up with is a 91 camaro. It has a new motor in it but it needs some other work and the motor won't start. It has that 3.1 v6 in it with the multiport fuel injection its getting fuel to the fuel rail and its sparking good but I don't think the injectors are firing. I know how to test them but for the life of me I can't remember on these motors what actually fires the injectors, like a crankshaft sensor or something of the like. I'm only fixing it so I can re trade it to another person for a mid 60's buick which is suppose to have a good 401 nailhead in it. So as soon as I can be able to fix the mullet machine I can get some more parts for my other projects ie: my model A. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea I haven't taken posession of the car yet so I haven't really got to look at much on it other than what I saw when I was over at my buddies house that owns it. But I did go by the parts store to see what they had in they're computer about if it had a crankshaft sensor and by the parts store guy he said it didn't. I thought maybe a problem with a module in the distributor because sometimes in some fuel inj cars thats what tells the computer to fire the injectors. But if the module was bad wouldn't not fire the spark plugs? Thanks in advance for any help.
i'd invest in the cheap manual for that paticular car,see if the library had one you could check out,or call the closest g.m. dealership and see if you could talk them out of a clue to what might be wrong. That's how i usually try to learn something i have to know for low bucks or no bucks.
When I work on F-bodies I use the trusty manuals from Autozone and O'reilly (Haynes and Chilton). They have came in handy so many times. I don't know much about the six cylinder applications. Those books have pretty good troubleshooting guides. Reverend Jake
