Received word today that Dave Duell, long time Mopar racer, "Dragin Wagon" p***ed away this afternoon. More sad news is that Davy Johnson, Pro/NSS racer, "White Warrior, 63 Tempest lost his battle with cancer also today. A sad day for Nostalgia Super Stock racers Mark Artis Texas Thunder Performance
Evansville Courier had a write up on him this morning. He was big in the santa clothes club for needy kids. Only thing it had on drag racing was that he might win 1500.00 in a weekend but didn't cover expenses and His 64 fury called Glory Daze. He had turned his Chrysler dealership over to his family some time back. He will be missed in Evansville.
I've known Dave for a long time, he put together a lot of the NSS races I've run in the last 7 years. I thought he was a jack*** when I first met him, but after a while i thought he was cool. We were standing in the staging lanes at NTR at the mopar nats this year, all the NSS drivers were talking before the runs. Dave looked at my '62 and started to tell me how in may of '62 he was a parts manager at the plymouth dealership and heard all about the new S/S motor they were coming out with. Just then we got called up to run, so he didn't have time to finish. I didn't see him for the rest of the day so i never got to hear the rest of it. He will be missed.
