  5. Machinist for Boeing, currently on strike, so far its been a good ride. specifically I run a manual boring mill. Which is a dying art in manufacturing and a job most guys don't want but its perfect for me as there's a lot of variety instead of constant dedicated production work.

started out as a mucker worked as a welder fabricator and machinist for a few years and for the past 27 a marine machinist (mechanic) on submarines. A dying trade at best, kind of like the airplane mechanic in the opposite direction.

  15. Retired with 20 years service in the USAF (Combat Communications)...worked for USAF for another 15 years as an "advisor." Short career in the golf industry (cut short by wife's cancer followed by my cancer...we are both fine now).

Went to a two year automachinist course just so I could build a couple of flatties using their equipment.

Currently attempting to become professional procrastinator. Also translating the complete works of Shakespear into Ebonics ("To be or to be not...that be the question"). while also trying to determine at what level of alcohol dependency does one become non-functional.

Graphic Designer...freelance, exclusively for print, but I've got a couple clients that basically own me. lol

I've been doing it for...sheesh...about 12 years now. I took the hard road and taught myself the trade. Many of those years I had to have a "real job" to pay the bills so I worked places I could learn how to do stuff for myself, including woodshops, an auto upholstery shop, and a couple print shops. Then a couple years ago I finally got into it full time, and now I keep pretty busy...most of the time anyway...there's peaks and valleys but it balances out.

I love working from home now that I've figured out how to make a little money at it...but lately I spend too much of my time here and not enough time working on my cars lol Viva La HAMB!!!

Mechanical engineer. Started as general foreman for the Chicago & Northwestern in the shop that rebuilt locomotives. Moved to structural test engineer for Harnischfeger P & H where I got to try to break rough terrain cranes. Now I design secret electronic boxes for the military. It sucks to be a ME in an electronics place. I've had to work a second job for the last 14 years.

My job matches my personality: split :D

I work for an Events/Publishing company. Basically I sell advertising in our drag racing rags most of the time (I'm the publisher of one of them).

I also do a lot of the sponsorship sales for our (2) series' that we own. sounds exciting but it's mostly phone work.

I teach the future of America..........it's scary!

Well, I've worked at a small hardware store while I was in college, a small computer store and at Lowes. Then I taught 2nd grade for 2 years (don't ask!), 5th and 6th grade for 4 years and currently I'm teaching Industrial Technologies at our local HS.

We were sitting in the meeting that the staff has at the beginning of every year, "It's a new year, it's the year of change, it's an exciting year, it's a great year to be a teacher at X High School. And, BTW, if we could find a certified person to teach woods- since the old one left- we would." Well, I raised my hand and a few welding, drafting, HVAC and fine woodworking classes later....wallah! I'm a wood shop teacher......love it.......sometimes....

    aka...elevator installer.
    I also installed escalators.
Don't believe any of that Hollywood crap about elevators falling. There is too many safety backups for that to happen. Also, the doors won't open if the elevator isn't there. The device that opens the doors is on top of the elevator.

  25. Nothing at the moment;I've been sitting here for the last half hour reading these replies and marvelling at the diversity of this board. With all this talent on here,we should form a corporation and take over the world!
I've held several positions over the years:I got to play with explosives for Uncle Sam from 1964 to 1967,I worked(VERY)briefly in a ball bearing factory,a body shop specializing in Corvettes, lettering race cars for a company,a body man,a parts counterman and eventually manager for a Mercedes-Benz dealer for most of my life.
In between I worked as a dispatcher, warranty claims manager, shop foreman and part-time baby sitter at another Mercedes dealership.I also free lanced as an,"illegal and/or harmful substance tester"for many years.I also had a very profitable hobby striping and lettering automobiles, trucks, boats, airplanes, and just about anything else capable of holding paint.
I was married for nearly 20 years to a half Irish half Sicilian lunatic who got really fond of the properties of sharp objects when she was inebriated,am currently married to a girl I first met when I was playing with bombs(1965)and should have married then but I wouldn't have had all this fun.
I currently am medically retired as is my bride and I still have my profitable hobby which has expanded greatly in the past several years.Social Security will have me knocking on their door next January and I eagerly look forward to spending the next 30 years or so driving my kids and my grandchildren as crazy as they have driven me.

Too many jobs to count, but some include an 11 year stint in off-site data management, and 2 years as parts manager of a local hot rod shop.

However, after 42 years on this planet I've finally found a career. This past May I started driving a bus for Calgary Transit.

  28. I work on nuclear weapons. Production Quality Liaison Engineer is my official title. Almost all of my work is classified content, so I deal with lots of security issues. I have to pass through 5 security persons or badge readers to get to my desk. I travel a lot for work, traveling sucks.

good to see so many teachers on the board, I teach 4th-8th grade beginning violin/viola/cello, as well as 5th-8th grade band. I have a High School Orchestra that I teach every morning at 8am. I get to drive to 6 different school sites every week and teach instrumental music to kids who want to learn it, pretty good gig, except for all the driving.
