by day I'm a High School Shop teacher, and most days I enjoy it..

by night I operate my own small shop and do abit of Automotive side work..
everything from chassis fabrication to metalshaping..

when time allows I moonlight as a general contractor / handyman... for local celebs...

well it looks like im the fifth or sixth aircraft mechanic on here...

5 years...5 different airlines.... including one recently bankrupt major based out of atlanta...i guess i wont get recalled back to work there...

i guess 5 airlines makes me an ace...only a matter of time until my current airline hits financial trouble...

Mechanical Engineer for an Air Force contract and CAD work on the side for a local aquarium manufacturer. I'm really interested in starting up something for myself though. Hopefully combining my background knowledge and interests/hobbies. But then, I guess that's the dream for most... being your own boss and getting out of bed when you feel like working!

  4. I work for Kinder Morgan Energy-
I am an "Operator 8"- have been with them for almost 7 years, since the day I got out of the Air Force. I handle the accounting inventory for all shippers that own petroleum product that we store in our tanks, or ship down our pipelines. I also handle Line Riding duties which involves marking our underground pipeline so that third party contractors or utilities don't damage our pipeline or get themselves killed by digging in the wrong place. We are Dept. of Transportation Regulated, Bay area air quality regulated, etc. etc., so it can be stressful at times to say the least. Good job, and it pays the bills but it's not much in the fun department just like most jobs. I work just a mile or so south of San Fransisco. Thats what I do for work in a nutshell.

Oh man! I know what you mean! If you work for who I think you work for, my company buys your boxes (can I say that since our work is supposed to be, well, you know...??) for their projects... being an ME in Vegas blows too!!

I went to Ball State with Django but I don't recall ever holding his package at all. I'm a pilot and aircraft parts salesman. I also build fountains and furniture but not very often any more. The internet has really killed my productivity...and two babies didn't help that either. Now instead of making own shit, I'm changing diapers full of someone elses.

I'm a time served fitter and turner by trade, but I've spent the last 13 years as a compressor engineer, looking after big high pressure compressors, 2000psi, 1600cfm. Work in the oil patch, currently off the coast of Norway.

Also spent a couple of years as a boatyard mechainc, working on sailing boats and faggoty shit like that.

    Great thread!

Pretty amazing how evenly split we are as far as artistic / technical jobs are concerned. Everyone's job seems to have a creative element. I think that's why this board is so great for ideas and inspiration.

I can't believe that Brandy is the only other person here besides myself who works in a restaurant. Hat's off to you sister!

I'm 31, a sous chef in a fine dining restaurant., I work about 80+ hours a week in a militant kitchen. My blood boils. I still find time to tinker on my AV8 (albeit very slowly) and I still love what I do.

I'm a student, I'm studying automotive design. All the work is killing me but hopefully one day it will pay off. If not I'll be destined for "Would you like fries with that?" I mean I like getting greasy but not in that fry cook way... I also do some "fine art" stuff on the side.

Im a RF Engineer by education but cars have been a parallel interest since I was around 14. Ive had one form or another of custom, rod, modified sports (SBC in various European cars), Corvette or muscle car since 1956.
Since the Boston area industry tanked after 9/11 along with the .com melt down I opened my own shop and now spend my time enjoying myself doing a job I actually enjoy going to.
I concentrate on repair panel welding with my Henrob and let my employees do the engine swaps, fabrication and painting. I also do a little lead work when needed. We concentrate on 42-56 Ford trucks but take on other projects if Im interested and the customer isnt a dickhead. NO billet street rodders need apply!

Another sideline is building mild to hot flatheads and Y blocks for customers.

Once in a blue moon I get time to work on one of my own projects.

When I am not going to college (summers) I work at a Research and Development company doing mostly contract work for GM- Running engines on Dynos and test stands as well as enviromental chamber runs on full bodied vehicles or body bucks. I also do some metal fabrication there when needed. When I get out of school I hope to do some sort of engineering or anything automotive related.

  30. I'm a Power Specialist for a Power Quality Equipment Supply company. That means one day I am running power measurements at a robotics facility, the next day I am trying to figure out why breakers are blowing at some rich guys house, and the next day I am fighting with a manufacturer to find out why a cutom transformer was not shipped when it was suppossed to. I play with cars when I am not playing with electricity.
