Neighbors need to mind their own... I don't understand why people think they have some sort of a say-so on your property.

That is usually true, I agree. Read message 119 on this thread for another take. For example, if I were your next door neighbor in town, and regularly hosted a weekly club meeting of the Morbidly Obese Octenogerian Nudist Drunkard Amplified Accordian Players and Night Owls,:eek:and we partied loud and hard in my yard from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM, would you still say you have no say or rights about what I do with my club on my property? Not likely, the club meeting would deafen you, blind you, and make you crazy.

In other words, some folks take it too far in both directions, either too fussy and selfish or too selfish and thoughtless.

I just meant that when some neighbors are being really crappy, particularly in a situation where they moved into an area and then started complaining about a farm, business, or neighbor that was there when they moved in, being a nice neighbor has its limits, and at some point you gotta stop playing nice and stand up for yourself.

Chill out. It wasn't directed at you.

Sorry Von Rigg Fink, I thought you knew the joke. The answer is it only hurts if you get your thumbs in the way when you smack the bricks together.

  7. Not sure where you were going, but my point is the same guy who doesn't want to look at my junk because it "lowers his property's value" is also bitching to the town when his property assessment goes up and he has to pay more in taxes. Wouldn't it be easier to argue to lower the assessment if you can argue the place next door looks like hell? I mean his argument may as well be "clean up your junk because I want to pay more in taxes!"

Not every state taxes the same, in NY we have to pay school taxes annually based on the property's assessed value. They never go down, they almost always go up every year, best you can hope for is they stay the same. That's why about half of New York now lives in North Carolina, and half the manufacturing plants that were here have also moved to other states or even out of the country.

I do have to laugh a little, our old place one neighbor was a total dick. He complained about a couple of my cars to the town on several occasions. Guy puts up a fence, he puts up a chain link one. I kept the cars by putting plates on them and always wanted to put one right next to the fence with a hand giving the finger painted on it, but never did. Fast forward a few years, the people we sold the place to couldn't get their price after redoing it so they live in it... and out in the back yard, right next to this guy's fence, is a beat up '65 Ford stake bed truck, it hasn't moved all summer that I can see. Take that, you old asshole, you could hardly see my cars from your house, now you can look at one every day.

Perfectly acceptable, take out is uniquely American. I'm not one for that fish bate they call Sushi but hey we won't discriminate against those who do. Man could you imagine the pile of beer cans on recycling day! I can see it now the Beer truck of your choice following the milk truck and the paperboy in the morning.

Oh yeah and your concrete too....
