O/T got fired today

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fat ASS Whitewalls, Jul 17, 2007.

  1. After 3 years at Gardner Denver I was let go today, I expected it, as I was suspended July 3rd. I feel worse for the other two operators though, they were let go too. The first shift guy had been there for 27 years, with 17 years perfect attendance. The 3rd shift guy is an ***hole, but he had almost 10 years, I don't feel as bad for him. He would call me names behind my back, ( ****en California mother****er, California ***) They said we falsified do***ents. We ran 3 Toyoda CNC mills. There where some parts that they said we ran that where bad, and we marked them as good. They never showed me the parts. Oh well I need a change anyway. It's getting hot now, and would get to 115deg in the building. They overtimed you to death, always wanting the weekends. ****em, no more weekends for me. Dean

Sorry to hear it, Man...but maybe this just means that a BETTER opprotunity is in the cards for you now! I tend to believe that things happen for a reason, and that good folks will find good fortune when the chips are down!

You've always struck me as a genuinely good guy, and it sounds like your employer didn't appreciate you very much. I hope better days are ahead of you now, and that Life deals you a better hand after this little shuffle!!

    :)

Shake it off. Everything happens for a reason my friend. You have a bigger, better opportunity waiting around the corner. It sounds like they did you a favor. I don't know what is going on in the American work place...wait. yeah I do. Go back in a week or two and see if any *******s are working there. If so, call imigration on there ***es. That **** happens all the time now in South Texas. You have to fight like hell to keep your job cuz the man has no loyality at all to long term employees. Put this behind you and move on...it's not worth getting upset about. If you know you did good...screw em.

Every time I 'left' a job as a choice of the employer I found something better. Whether it was more money, closer to home or just better co-workers, it was better.

Hopefully you'll have the same luck.

  5. One door closes and 10 open, it was time to move on. I feel your pain but in a year from now, you will be glad this happened.
    Heads up.

    Hey, Bro,
Sorry about your luck. Been there ...... ran a shop for 14 years ..... always did what was expected of me and then some ..... new (corporate) ownership from 'cross the pond .... long story short, I no longer run the place, or work there for that matter..... still ****s and I can sympathyse with you .... makes me feel a little better that Toyota didn't hire me at their 1.1 billion dollar "soon-to-be-open" plant here in Ontario ...... remember, what doesn't hurt you will only make you stronger ...... stiff upper lip, my friend ......

  10. My employer did me the same favor December 29 last year. Now Karma is biting them in the ****. Oh well I just got offered a temp position making stupid money for awhile doing CNC mill work. Keep up the hope.

    "things happen for a reason"

Sorry to jump in on YOUR post and air out MY ****, but several of you guys say... (and I truly look to the HAMB for advice!!!).."Things Happen For A Reason" Is that what you guys truly believe?? ---I AM N O T--- being a jerk, but after years of custody of my son, and NO child support from his mom, my ex has the balls to sue me for back childcare when he was with her!!! This all ended "so I thought" 3 years ago, but now my *** is going to court without a lawyer (CAN NOT AFFORD ONE!!!) for $12,000.00, and she HAS a lawyer (funny she dosen't work but can afford a lawer but not support for her son) and hoping for the best...."things happen for a reason"?!?!?!? AGAIN SORRY, I saw the replies and just had to ask!!! I will delete this if you want!! ....Ken

Ken, I could spend the next 4-5 hours telling you about the kid support thing. I raised both my boys on my own with no help from anyone, just henderance. The thing is now that they are grown, we are closer than ever and the mother is nowhere to be found. They have never forgotten what I did for them. Kids go for what you show and can see thru the BS real quick so, just hang in there. Just when you think things can't get any worst, they do get better. Sometimes it takes years but, if you take the high road and do the best you can...you can always hold your head high and be proud of what you did. Good luck and keep them kids close.

Being fired builds character, my character was built a lot when I was young;)
It makes you stronger in soul but weaker in wallet for a while.

    Thanks,
    I appreciate that!!!
Sorry to jump in on fat ***'s post, but I guess I needed to hear some welcomed "soulsness" from fellow HAMBERS!! I do wish my ex was NO where to be found!!! I wouldn't be in this predicament then. My son has not heard from his "mom" in 2 1/2 years!!!

FAT*** WHITEWALLS Just let me know... I will go thru and delete my posts if you want!! I was just feeling the same as you and was "looking" for a shoulder!! Sorry to barge in on your post...KEN!!!!

  19. Damn, two of the HAMB brotherhood chiming in with a real thump in the nuts.

Hey, Fat***Whitewalls, been-there-done-that on the job, too. About a year back, a (former) friend who'd inherited money convinced me to quit a steady job and come work for him.

And then, after I'd quit: "um, uh, well, I... er, ya' know..."

    ********er!

But in retrospect, it worked out okay. I spent a month driving a truck, working with some really cool guys at a company where they liked me a lot. That was really good for the soul (if not the back).

Then got a job as a train technician, which is making a little more than the job I quit to work with the ****head. And, I'm planning to put in an app with Amtrak for being a train conductor. Wouldn't have that opportunity if not for the "friend".

And for chopperimpala: A friend of mine went thru some real ****ed up **** re: custody. His ex claimed he was pulling some kind of abuse. Anyway, the court appoints a guardian ad lightum (sp?) and some councellor to check out the kid. The councellor takes a look at the way the kid acts around my buddy, and smells a rat. Short story long: the underhanded **** the ex tried blew up in her face; the councellor told the judge what's up, and the judge told the ex to go **** herself and ruled in favor of my buddy.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of ya'.

  20. The worst thing about it is the health insurance. I'm glad the job is over. I never had the feeling of pride there. Never saw the finished product. There motto was Ship it, let warranty catch it. Funny thing, I never read horoscopes, but my wife has one of those girlie magazines and I was looking through it to see some hotties, and found the horoscope page. Normally I would have p***ed right by it, but I read it. Here's what it says. "Why the long face? Why the feeling of impending doom? True, your financial situation is not so hot, but in the greater scheme of things money means nothing. Look around you and count your blessings." I am very lucky to have what I have. Dean

Retired Guidance Counselor here.....trust me on this......start tomorrow getting your name on Civil Service test lists, aps to all of the public en***ies in your area(electric co, water co, gas co, etc.), aps to your municipality, your county, and your State for any position that you have the skills for.......these are the kinds of jobs where you have protections, health benefits, pension plans, paid holidays, and relative job security..........I have seen too many young people sell themselves short by settling for lousy private sector jobs with no benefits, no protections, etc.

Do what I am suggesting......you will be amazed at what opportunities there are out there.......but you must present yourself in a way that expresses what skills, traits, and demeanor you can bring to that workplace.......do up a proferssional looking resume.....every word processing program(WORD, for instance) contains templates where all you have to do is plug in your personal information.....

If you really want to move on........get cracking.....it'll happen for you! No ****! No charge for the advice!

CB,....M.A. in Student Personnel Services, 33 yrs. as a Counselor, Retired and really good at it!

Yep, Yep... I was working a ****ty factory job, packing instant oatmeal in 110 degree heat... I had done a lot of testing for civil service jobs the year before-and out of the blue got called for an interview. 10-years on, and I'm still working the civil service job, with excellent benefits-and Union representation. Keep your head up, it'll all come around!

  26. Keep plugging away man. Good things happen to good folk. Old timers on the HAMB will remember the day I walked away from my career in the bicycle industry...................a week later I was remodeling houses with a bike industry guy that was in a state of change as well...........worked OK then I jumped at anothe "dream job" in a nowhere streetrod shop...............fastforward one more job and a few years. That guy that kept food on my table after I left my bikeshop job? Still a friend and asked me this spring to join his Mortgage business! I am finally very happy. I am getting better training than ANY job I ever had. It is truly a fresh start, my only experience was in my own land transactions and being a decent money manager (more my wife than me). I am happy.

My freakin point? My dad said it and grandad said it before him......."Its not what you know but who you know"...............that and a good work ethic!

Don't count yourself out. 10 years ago last month I got canned from Walker exhaust. Thought it was the end of the world. Sent out a boatload of resumes and ended up with 13 interviews in 8 days and 5 job offers. Every one was at least 10-15% more than Walker.

I packed up the family and moved to St. Paris Ohio (BFE) and worked for Evenflo making baby products for 3 years. Got my MBA in the mean time, almost totally funded by their education program, then left for a job that has nearly doubled the old Walker salary plus a company car and more work than I know what to do with some times!

With your skills, someone will hire you, even if it is under the table. I tell my kids to get an education but along the way, get a trade so someone can use you! My machine shop experience got me the job at Evenflo even though they hired me as an engineer. I ended up being the hack on the mill fabbing prototypes of toothbrush holders, stroller latches, car seat hinges, whatever they needed. I've got limited skills but can 'see' what they need. Most of the engineering kids these days are book smart and don't want to get dirty. What are they thinking!?

As for the kid thing, my brother in law has custody of his 11 year old son. The family stood behind him and bailed his *** out of the $$$/Lawyer jam a few times. After the 3rd time his ex took him to court the judge said 'if he wins again this time, you are paying for his lawyer' because she was basically pushing him into bankruptcy (eventually filed). You guessed it, she lost AGAIN and got to pay for 2 lawyers and got a stern talking to from the judge. There's got to be a lawyer that will help you. Try ADAM. They advertise in Detroit all the time. They are advocates for divorce for men. You'll have to run a search, I don't know their site. American Divorce ***ociation for Men?? Not sure. Giver her hell.
