I'm really sorry to hear this... What kind of work do you do? I hope you can find something soon. I know this sounds stupid right now, but everything happens for a reason.. you may have a great job waiting for you around the corner, and if this didn't happen, your next job would never have come up! Try and be positive.. that's all I can say.. and don't get so down on yourself! Keep your chin UP UP UP! [IMG]

Class C truck driver, fork lift operator, plumbing, CAD/board draftsman......

All I did was try to get our finances in the black... I really didn't want to go into the Navy, but now (as soon as I drop 35 lbs) I don't have a choice...

Take it from a guy who has worked now for 35 years. I have lost my job 4 times due to closings and 2 times due to large layoffs. I too have a family I was worried about.
You will find work and you WILL care for your family.
For most of us..thats what we're made of. Nothing will prevent us from that.Keep your head up. You have alot of talent now get out there and sell it.

Everyone makes mistakes throughout their lives. Lord knows I've certainly made my share. The lesson is to learn from it and move on. There ARE other jobs out there. Start looking NOW. Best of luck to you

PLEASE don't go into the Navy. The military is NOT there to bail out people who don't want to be there for the right reason. It's there to protect our nation, and needs dedicated individuals who are willing to give their lives, if necessary, to accomplish that mission. You DO have a choice. I have been thinking of the Navy for 3 months now, way before this happened. The only draw back that I have seen and the reason why I'm haven't signed the dotted line is

    1) I weigh to much (I have lost 30 lbs.)
    2) Being away from my family.

I wasn't using it as a bail-out by any means, just weighing my options.

sorry about the job situation, it'll work out for the better.

another, "don't join the navy" from me, but for other reasons, i wouldn't want your ass to get killed! THAT would really be a dissapointment to your family. fwiw, if i recall correctly, a coast guard member was killed this week in iraq, coast guard. don't assume you'll be safe.

    good luck!

Yeah, Clssy, kind of fucked up how the only jobs available to people with credentials (I've got a BS) and experience are for minimum wage or in the military. I'm KIND OF tossing around the same ideas right now. It's something I've always thought about, I think it would do wonders for me, but then again, it might not. But like you, there's a few people that would go insane if I were at that much of a risk every day. We'll figure something out. Hang in there.

Wouldn't it be easier to relocate instead of signing up?
