    Ya got em !!
My Dad also had colon cancer and went through chemo ten years ago.
The treatments kicked his *** and he ended up dying from a m***ive heart attack. Watch him closely when he gets in this weakened condition.
    Hope everything goes well.

****ing cancer. You all have to keep a positive at***ude. It's the only way. Four years ago my boss learned he had terminal thyroid cancer and he was supposed to be dead sometime next year. He exercises, takes care of himself, and enjoys life. At his last checkup, his Dr, down at Texas said he is the luckiest man in the world, and he had never seen anything like it. One of his best friends got cancer too and never really took an active role in his treatment and lost. It's all in your at***ude. Every day he has to look in the mirror and say "**** you cancer, you're not taking me." Seriously. The cancer center in Houston one of the best. But you should research who is the best place to get treated for that particular cancer and go there. No matter where. Don't just go to your local hospital cause it's convenient.

My prayers are with you. Here's what I have learned from a wife who is a nurse and a cheerful survivor of numerous serious medical problems:
READ UP ON THE DISEASE!!! Learn enough to ask intelligent questions, learn enough to ask about the options and why particular ones have been chosen!
Learn about the medications--go to the library and ask for the PDR and read the fine print on every damn one! MANDATORY self protection measures!!
You are being ATTACKED by the disease, and no one will defend you as well as you can yourself.
    Start here:

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/

Go to "health topics", go to ''C", scroll down to colorectal cancer--lots of clicks on aspects of disease and treatment written at several levels of sophistication. Other clicks on site will take you to drug info, spe******t doctors, etc. READREADREAD--your doctor probably hasn't had time to read anything since HMO's were invented--really!

PM me if you need more sources or very specific stuff--I'm a librarian, and can probably find what you need even though we're not a medical library.

Eight years ago on May 21st they removed my right lung, had lung cancer and they said that with agressive chemo I'd probably live a year. I **** canned the hometown doctor and went over to the Ohio State University Medical Center and met an incredable guy by the name of Patrick Ross, head of thorasic surgery. This guy is brilliant and rides a Harley Softail to work, every day that the weather cooperates. He looked at my scans and put me thru a day of difficult testing, took me to surgery on Wednesday, had to lose the entire right lung, seven weeks of radiation................been cancer free every since. Was off work ten weeks and have never looked back since, have never smoked again either. Colon cancer is very cureable, the key is early detection. My prayers are with you, but the bottom line is as others have already said, find a good doctor, keep a positive at***ude and cancer can be beat. I'm living proof that one of the worst kinds can still be beat!

The best father son relationships I have seen are built around a shared intrest in cars. It was very true for my dad and I.

Keep your head up, keep spirits up, and get'm out there to work on the cars as much as he can.

    Well,

I just want to start off by saying thank you; I am blown away in the response that this post has received. And btw hotrodladycrusr, I think we will take you up on that offer! Now for the news, they did a biopsy on the polyp and from what their findings it is only at the very end of the pre stages. They have to do an additional test or two Friday. They also have to take additional tissue out. The doctor seemed very confident about his chances.

I want to thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. I believe they have helped.

    Thank you

I can't believe its been that long ago John. Time flys when your having fun.

COLON CANCER IS ONE OF THE MOST CUREABLE FORMS OF CANCER!!!!

Back in 87 at the age of 39 my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. Normaly he would not have gone to the doctor but we were in the middle of building our house and he had so much was riding on the house he did not want to risk it. He was just feeling so bad he felt he need to get better quickly. After a bunch of tests and a misdiagnosis of Divraticulitus he went under the knife and when he woke up he discovered that he had a colostomy bag (poops in a bag on his hip). When they went in they found a cancerous tumor had fused his bladder to his collon. There was nothing they could do at that time it was too risky. They were affraid he was full of cancer. The doctor gave him the colostomy and closed him up. He called in another doctor from Ohio State Medical center (Dr. Martin) and together they devised a plan. My dad took Radiation till the cancer was mostly dead. At the same time they injected him with some sort of chemical from a mouse's body that for some reason is attracted to cancer. The "Mouse Squeezins" as we reffered to them were laced with radioactive material. When they went in the second time they used a Guiger (sp) counter to look for the radio active mouse squeezins. The test revealed no other cancer in his abdomen. The doctors removed what was left of the tumor which took a third of his bladder and 18" of his colon and hooked the plumbing back up as God intended it. Like I said that was 18 year ago. Thanks to early detection he is as healthy as ever and still tinkering in the garage.

I will be thirty :( next month and have been getting rather intament with a camera these last few years. If you learn nothing more understand this, your father has set a president that odds are you will follow. Don't be too macho to get yourself checked out. It may save your life...

My father and I will be praying for you and yours.

Junk, GREAT points. Most men do not start to get checked early enough, nor often enough. Lots don't even bother getting checked at all till after there are signs of trouble.

PLEASE guys, if your reading this post and haven't been checked out at all (and your in the right age bracket) or not on a regular basis, make an appointment with your doctor NOW. Please don't put your family and friends thru this type of experience when early detection can mean the difference between life and death.

Your HAMB buds want you around for a long time.....even the ***holes here:eek: :D
    Get it.... pun intended. :D

  22. You have my thoughts and prayers.

My grandmother had cancer in 1960. She was 70. They knew little enough then, much more now. She lived until 1984, and she was 94 at that time.

    It can be beat.

    Hey guys,

I just thought I would post a quick updated on what’s going on.
Tomorrow 04/26/04 at around 11:30 am CST my dad will go in for surgery to cut out about 7 inches of colon. He will be down for about 2-4 weeks. I know everyone has him in their thoughts, etc. Just wanted to let everyone know what’s going on.

I want to just take a minute to also thank ryan for this amazing place. Without him this post would not be possible, and I would not have got to meet the cool people I have, in the short time since I joined.

    Thank You,

    Tony Alberti
