That's right. If you move to Georgia, don't move to the city of Atlanta. Atlanta is a great city, but unless you like living in big cities, make sure you settle outside of the metro area.

Athens ... excellent choice. University of Georgia is located there. Athens is a beautiful place with lots to do.

Savannah ... yes, it's hot in the summer, but like someone else said, there are great, and I do mean great, restuarants everywhere. It is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Also, as was said before, the Savannah College of Arts is located there, as well.

There is a big car scene within the state, especially around the metro Atlanta area. A lot of rodders and custom guys live to the north of Atlanta. There are also a good number of rodders living in the area where I live, which is about 30 minutes south of Atlanta.

I'll also mention that there're lots of race tracks in Georgia. There is a major NASCAR track and a major NHRA dragstrip in northern Georgia. There are also road racing tracks, dirt tracks and about a half dozen smaller drag strips within the state.

Cincinnati isn't really that bad at all, I have been all over the country and I like it here... well besides the damn weather, trade our **** weather for say some SoCal weather and I'd be set. Our car scene here is pretty damn good for our location, hopefully it can only get better!

California does ****. It's way over rated. I was born and raised here and I hate it. I want out. The only three things I would miss about California is the good swapmeets like Pomona and Long Beach, The Beach and taking my son to Disneyland.

Been there, done that THREE TIMES (I'm a slow learner).
Ohio is just as bad, except the ratio of decent folks is a small bit higher.

In Georgia, you will be a DAMN YANKEE.
To them a Yankee is someone who comes down to visit, spends all their money and GOES HOME.
Because you are a DAMN Yankee (till you leave) you will never quite be fully accepted into their society.

There are good people everywhere..... it just that the ratios of good guys to ***hats are really bad in some places.

Well I never really thought of living in atlanta my girl wanted to get her masters in fine art so it would be savannah if we moved to georgia. I still like the sound of austin though.

Left SoCal in 93 after 45 years there to go to the Seattle area. ONLY thing I miss is Pomona & Long Beach swapmeets - nothing else. Pacific northwest has the best weather, and as long as you stay away from Seattle, very few Granolas!

Can't say I blame you for wanting out of the pit your'e in, BUT, your'e Olds and the "A" would be welcome in North Idaho, but I doubt you would like it for several reasons. We have a State Income Tax, nasty winters, few hot chicks, fewer minorities, cheap car license and registration / insurance, good hunting and fishing, lots of car stuff, (weather permitting), lopts of forclosures right now so you could take advantage of someones mis-fortune, (if you don't some one else will.) Out in the boonies you can weld, grind. paint all you want, who cares? No smog laws, good neighbors, I scratch their backs and keep their **** runnin' they're happy and don't care if I paint at 2'0clock sunday morning. You can own as many dogs/ kids / women as you can feed, and shoot whatever is excess. BUT, can't buy LICQUOR on Sundays, so you stock up before. Oh yeah, nearly forgot. We are next door WASHINGTON, home of the Phosphated soap smugglers. But you wouldn't like it here.

I wish you luck, go some place else and give it a try. Only you know what it is you are looking for.

During my travels around the country as a field rep I got to see lots of places, spend considerable time in some of them, and found something to like in every one. As far as I could see every place had plusses, a few minuses and some great people. One thing I learned quickly was the happiest people I met on my travels were always those actively involved in making their communities a better place to live, no matter where that was. Now that I don't travel anymore I'm actively involved in mine.

It's funny how folks from other states say "keep away," but folks in the south say "c'mon down!" Can't get much better than southern cuisine, southern women, and southern hospitality IMHO.

I say you'll have a hard time finding a spot so lovely as Texas....but then again, I'm biased.
