it seems lately that a lot of you are seemingly unhappy with the state of the world and what not with the recent threads on bad neighbors, cars, and even valve covers stolen while we innocently sleep. so i thought i'd bring up something off topic to cheer you all up. i met a man today who is 70 years old. he just so happens to work in the gringo's next door to the HAMB drags hotel in Joplin, MO. well, anyways, a couple weeks back, late one evening, some punk in the parking lot starts swearing at some young ladies and then procedes to physically intimidate them. well, this 70 year old wasn't raised to let that kind of crap go unchecked. he walks outside and tells the kid to watch his language in front of the ladies and leave them alone. the punk then tells the old man to mind his business or he'll kick his ass too. long story short the 70 year old used to be a fairly good boxer in his day and i guess he still had a little fight left in him. one seventy year old can of whoop-ass later.....sweet, sweet JUSTICE
Good for him. Step in and kick some ass for the cause. That's exactly what this world needs, and those are the guys we need making the rules. It used to be that way. You didn't need a cop on every street. Men like that WERE the cops. Take disrespectful pussy-ass punks and bash their teeth out on their own bumper for swearing at old ladies, and you'd be surprised how peaceful a town becomes. JOE
Yeah, my theory is that historically Courtesy has come from self-interest--that is, genuine fear of personal harm if you behave discourteously to someone. Are we any more civilized today, when kids know they can be disrespectful without fear of discipline or punishment? Doesn't seem so to me. I don't want to start any religious arguments on here, but I believe God gave us brains for us to use, and He expects us to manage our own affairs. God may or may not judge us all but that doesn't mean we let each other get away with murder, because it's "not our place" to judge our fellow humans. The greater sin may be inaction--allowing injustice to exist. Okay I'm done.
That's great! The best man at my wedding was a Marine drill instructor (back when they didn't have many rules during boot camp). a few years ago, he was approached by a young man. This young man wanted his wallet. My friend said "No". The punk took a swing at him, my friend proceeded to pick him up and body slam him and kick the ever loving shit out of him (I think he might have eventually turned up at the hospital). When the punk got body slammed, his wallet fell out of his pocket. My friend came out with a black eye. Needless to say, he was a guest of the state for awhile.
"but I believe God gave us brains for us to use, and He expects us to manage our own affairs." That's half the problem, most ppl are stupid.
One of my favorite stories is from Florida. Some kid decided he wanted an easy score and was going to rob a Bob Evans restaraunt during the dinner rush, because it was going to be full of old people, who are easy targets. Florida has a concealed carry law. Several of the old dudes drew down on him and shot him. (he lived, but had some extra holes) Like my wife said at the time--don't screw with old people; they're from a time when things were tougher, and they aren't worried about getting in trouble anymore. Brad
Cool story...just think it's not bad enough he got his ass kicked but an older guy did it. Somebody needs to buy that older (hero) guy a beer! Clark PS.. I feel bad calling him old....he deserves a lot of respect!
That's what I was thinkin'... Then I figure it would be a good thing if he knows the bunch of hoodlums in the lot at the hotel are cool, so he doesn't go kicking the shit out of half the HAMB. ...but yeah, buy him a beer... or a Cherry-Coke... or a hooker. I mean, sure he's 70 but he seems like he has the energy... JOE
90% of what's wrong in America can be traced directly back to bad upbringing. I was more afraid of my parents than I ever was of the police, adn the cops scared me shitless if I was doing wrong. Mostly, cause they'd turn me over to my folks!
I remember that place and I remember MarkX, with sombaro on the top of his head, climbing and posing on the top of that sign. Someone has GOT to have a photo of that. I know I've seen one.
One of my favorite movies is "Second Hand Lions". One of my favorite parts of the movie is when the thugs walk into the general store and start messin with Robert Duvall and he takes on all of them, kicks their asses, tosses them in their own car and proceeds to drives them back to his house to dress their wounds and give them the "What Every Boy Needs To Know To Be A Man" speech. They got a good whoopin, but they respected him after that.
