Seems there's a pretty serious flaw in a couple different models of Kryptonite locks. Just recieved this from a friend: [ QUOTE ] I just called them and put my name on a contact list, and the customer service person I spoke with told me they'll likely call in a few days with news. If you'd like to do the same, call 800-say-lock, then press 0 and ask for customer service. They'll need your key code (on the key), name, and phone number. This is real, unfortunately. It came out on the NBDA dealers list today, and several dealers have tried, and succeeded in opening these locks. One guy posted that there was a story in a Boston newspaper about how easy it is.Also, another dealer was told by Kryptonite to pull his locks off the shelves, and not sell them. Better get a big*** chain or cable now,all the lowlifes will soon know this trick.
It's not just Kryptonite The bike forums are full of folks who've defeated other brands as well. It may even be circular lock mechanisms in general. To make it car related, consider that these are the same types of tumblers used in most steering whell imobilizers (clubs) mike
Thats why I always ride with TWO different locks, a Krypto and a cable. Thieves like to work fast and wont deal with two types of locks. I also use my Bike locks for my cars. I keep the hood of the 54 locked with a cable lock and have used U locks thru the spokes of tralor wheels.
