I got a strange e-mail today in my msn account. I'm pretty sure it's a scam, has anyone else gotten one? This is a cut and paste of it, notice the spelling/nonesense in the first sentance, that's what got me first..... Please don't reply to it as it will't reach the just department. - Recently there have been many reports of fraud activity regarding stolen account information and stolen identities. This requires a full update on your records matching our database information to suit the future prolongation of account billing. You will be prompted to provide full and complete information regarding your account with us just so you can identify your online personality. Please take several minutes to fill out the forms. Failure to update your online records will result in a halt of your email account and a possible reactivation fee. Please Click Here to update your billing account records. Thanks for using MSN services, MSNPay Supporting. The "click here" takes you to this page. Click here
It's a scam. NEVER fill out personal information in response to an e-mail. Notice when you run your curser over the "click here" it shows an IP and not MSN header. Also, MSN wouldn't use the term "to suit the future prolongation of account billing." That's Nigerian. I would send a copy, or forward the original, to MSN security. Mutt
FAKE I DO ALOT OF EBAY AND GET THE SAME KINDA OF MAIL FROM PEOPLE DOING THAT. IT MOSTLY COMES FROM OFFSHORE PLACES AND IS NOT TRACEABLE AS FAR AS THE LAW IS CONCERNED ONCE OVER SEAS. ITS COMMONLY REFFERED TO AS FISHING. YOU FILL OUT ALL YOUR PERSONAL INFO ONCE THEY GOT THAT YOUR DONE THEY GOT ALL THEY NEED. I NEVER REPLY TO THESE.THE SMART THING TO DO IS START A NEW EMAIL AND QUESTION THE COMPANY THEY SAY THEY ARE MOST COMPANIES DO NOT ASK FOR PERSONAL INFO IN EMAILS. HOPE THIS HELPS CHECK EBAY THEY GOT SOME GOOD INFO IN HELP SECTION ON FISHING. LATER SHOE
Has anyone else gotten the emails from the banks wanting account information too? Evidently, I have accounts with 3 major banks that I didn't know about. Somewhere, someone made some money off one of these scams for them to keep trying it...
Got something similar labled MSN today. Was in junk mail rated high. Just dumped it. Wife & I have each gotten several last month, never even open.
Any legit corporation is going to at least get the spelling and grammer correct. Someday the scammers will improve their English skills. Until then,it's an easy give away.
Thanks guys, I figured it was a scam. I've never paid for that e-mail. Not to mention I don't have a credit card to give them, so they were fishing in the wrong pond here !
There's 1 thats been going around for quite awhile from "earthlink". Saying your credit card number is invalid/about to expire. Wow, I get one every month...yet I still have service Now I've been getting 1 from "paypal". And this one LOOKS the most real out of them all. Saying to update your account info.... I would imagine, if they REALLY wanted you to update your acct. info, when you actually log into paypal on a secure connection, it would be brought up then. Not in email.
I received the paypal one too. Kinda surprised me until I re-read it. I am sure that is how they get people. Have to always be on your toes if your gonna play in cyberworld.
I get them from ebay .paypal and MSN -they all say they do not ask for your credit card info online when i call or email them about it , the ebay one says i am being investigated , because someone has used my handle for a fraudulant(?) auction, MSN says my info is incorrect and need to update, same basic thing from the paypal one , I delete the emails now.If any of them are real, I'll deal with it after something happens.
