Out-Frickin-Standing! Very nice creative work and I bet it brings a smile to the face of many that are just tired of the same old corporate crap. Very nice.

More than the owner can stand.

So many have stopped and whipped out the phone to grab a pic.

  8. Dude,

I worked at HD Store #464 on Bell Rd in Phoenix, AZ in the late 1990s... I KNOW my manager would NEVER have gone for that, and I suspect it would have caused a commotion in HD Corporate! It's good to see HD loosen up and have fun in the store!

That is by far THE coolest thing I have ever seen in a Home Depot store!

    Thanx Q!

Our District Manager called my GM and told him that our store had the talent to take the prize.

    Skies the limit.

Bill told me to go for it and make it BIG.

    We delivered.

    That's great!

The best part of this is the fact that since it's getting such a positive response, it will probably snowball. You won, people liked it -they'll want to see what you come up with next year. They'll want you to win again. It'll make such a busy time of year at work a whole lot more fun!

  12. awesome display!well deserved 1st place win-congrats !!

  13. That's a way cool setup! If closer we'd stop by & see it. I wish some of the 'big box' stores would be a bit more retro, back to when it was actually fun to go shopping - not only for stuff, but to see the window displays to. Today's stores see so cold and impersonal, it's nice to see something like your display to warm up the store and hearts of its shoppers. WARNING - be careful with that Red Ryder - you'll shoot your eye out. . .!

  14. As a child in the 50's I remember most of the department stores having a disply department and it was somewhat of a compentition with the downtown businesses to go all out for the Christmas Holidays.

Gallent Belks was the biggest store on the square and had mecanical figures like Santa, elves, trains and cars roaming the hugh glass show windows,,,much like the Christmas Story,,you'll shoot your eye out kid!

Kids and adults looked forward to those displays and the late afternoon Christmas parade,,and as the jolly fat man came down the street in his sleagh drawn not by eight tiny reindeer but by one new 50's era Ford tractor from the local dealership,,the over the street Christmas lights were lit.

My dad owned a small paint store and even he did the best he could,,even down to running tape in the show window to simulate window panes and edging them with spray can snow,,usually my after Christmas job to scrape it off with a razor blade.

sadly those days are gone here,,downtown has just about went the way of the dodo bird, replaced with lawyer offices, over priced yuppie cafes ,empty store fronts and overflow city offices.

There are no over the street garland laden strands with hugh stars in the midle and lights,,just Christmas theamed flags,,no evening parades,,and rarely a tractor is seen.

It is great to see someone put some effort in a disply that would make people stop in their tracks, take a picture and reflect,,you did a great job.

Thanks for sharing with us,,,and BTW,,I still have my Red Ridyer BB gun.:D HRP

I've seen that movie way too many times. The leg lamp made me laugh and made me wonder about the box from Italy marked "FRAGILE". I home your team wins the "Major award".

Great display with things that all of the sudden get the attention of a lot of people who would otherwise pass by, grab a roll of wrapping paper and keep pushing the cart down the aisle.

I was 60 before I got my own "real" Red Ryder bb gun and my son bought it for me. I had asked for one when I was about 7 or 8 and ended up with one of the bottom line Daisys instead of a "real" Red Ryder and always wanted one.

I don't have any other good excuse to make the 150 mile trip in the next few weeks but it would be worth it to see the display.

    HA!!

I am actually the Merchandiser for the store.

All displays and such I am responsible for.

    Thanks again.

One more neat thing. The District Manager and my store manager wnat the "building" to stay up year round. So, now I have to keep the window updated with the saesons as they change.

This is going to be fun!
