Does it, by chance, say it is built in Plain City, Ohio? I live about 25-30 miles from there and participate in the Steam and Gas show there.
A guy down the street from me had that same model Chris Craft sitting in his driveway last summer. Very cool looking boat, good luck with the restoration.
No, the one down the street looked like it had been restored. By the way I live about two miles down the road from Andy K.
Ahh yeah there's a few around...I found about 3 for sale in ny...Andy is a good guy helps me out a lot
--------------------- You could get a Chrysler flathead 6 in them, but in that era, Chris Craft also used their own "Chris Craft Fireball" flathead 6 marine engine, based on a Continental block. Mart3406 ==================
this one has the chrysler 6 in it but its not correct....it should have the chris craft 6 which i am hunting down now true but thats just the fact that its new....if im going to own something like this i want a true original....actually thats the way most of the wooden boat world is original is always better
There is nothing like the sound of a wood boat on the water.....I hate Fiberglass boats....probably why I hate fiberglass cars.... Cool project. I've unfortunately seen to many old vintage boats die around my area of the US. Glad you're saving that one.
-------------- Speaking of Chris Craft 'Cobras'- check out this restored Chrysler Marine Hemi-powered beauty! Might know where you can get the right mill and all the right parts... p.m. me I had a few wood boats and my favorite wasn't the most valuable but the most fun... 1946 Century Resorter which was the 24th boat built after WWII. I had Chris's, Dumphy's, Thompson's, Garwood, Dodge, and tried to get a Hacker Craft yacht but I liked the small 19 ft. utility for all around fun! If you can get past the hokey music there's a ton of awesome motor music! <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/L--TMS61Zvw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And this... <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pKkXOnB62fM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And the "ULTIMATE WOODY" the "THUNDERBIRD" with twin Allison V-12's!!!!! <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Wrzd41sFSm4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Sex... Pure Sex... <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4XB_JNCQOkw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And who wouldn't get "Misty" over this one...! <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-oGU7PkPNwQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I don't know if you still need a running Chris Craft motor and reverser (trans). 120 horse 6cyl. I'll send you a pm
No doubt, just the silicon bronze screws are gonna be a bunch. The nice thing about it is that the Chris Craft was not only a well built boat to start with but has been well documented too in case you need to make any pieces. Even though you have a hell of a lot of work (and broken off screws} ahead of you it'll be worth it. That is one classy boat that you have there! I had a 1962 Chris Craft Constellation, 46 foot long, twin planked Philippine mahogany liveaboard. Busted my ass restoring some of the interior, broke screws, emptied wallet, said bad words and would do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, I was almost over it until I saw this thread. Lol! Good luck and I'm subscribed. Eli
That Thunderbird boat might be the coolest thing in the water anywhere. Great videos. I wish you luck on your boat restore.
I passed on a $1,000 Coronado that sat for 30 years because the keel had a severe hook in it. The boat's engine would turn over and was very complete with a trailer Today the chrome alone is worth that and more.
Yeah i know....I bought a second one in the mean time to use...1936 Gar Wood 16' Split Cockpit Runabout...This boat was originally at the 1936 NYC Boat Show in the Gar Wood display it was restored and a show winner at Clayton in 2006
i have no interest in any boat made after 1954....The classics are amazing though after your first ride youll want one
That would be wicked with a blown hemi stuck in the back and tied to a jet drive unit! Love it stock too. I always wanted a 31' Commander!
