Our office manager was looking on line for someone to paint a bomber jacket for her husband. His dad flew in WW2 and p***ed away a few years ago. She would like to have his old squadron insignia done on her husbands jacket for him. She found a couple sites that specialize in this but I ask if she would mind if I inquired here. With the talent on this board I figured someone may do this sort of thing or could recomend someone who's work they respected.
    Thanks in advance,
    George

It would be a bit more expensive than painting, but for somethng with that sort of sentiment behind it I would look into having it embroidered. The paint won't last long if the jacket's worn regularly, and they have those fancy computerized embroidery machines now that can do full color photographs and stuff. Just my $.02!

BIG money for something like that to be embroidered. Several hundred dollars just to have it digitized and s***ch count would be unreal.

Embroidery would look nice, but hand painted would be more authentic.1 Shot will last a LONG time on a Leather jacket. And I imagine he would take good care of it.
I know a guy in Tulsa, and one in OKC.

GV Gordon, I had VonTingler do a bomber jacket for me a couple months ago and I'm going to have some nose art done by him on another one. I'm very satisfied with his work. Jason is a very talented airbrush artist. PM him and see what he can do for you. overspray

I'll vouch for the 1 shot lasting a long time. I have the bomber jacket that my grandfather wore on all 34 bombing missions he flew in WWII and to this day, the colors are nice and vibrant. Sure there is some cracking and chips in the paint, but it all adds to the character and would'nt look right without them. My 2¢.

I've got to agree with UnklIan and Link, One Shot will last a very LONG time. I have a bomber that I had a local striper do a flyin eyeball on quite a number of years ago. The colors are still right there and the slight cracking that is appearing only serves to give the coat character. However, be aware that striping/painting on leather really is a time consuming task as the leather absorbs the paint like a sponge. There is a pre-treatment that can be applied to the coat to reduce the amount of paint applied but, I can't remember the name. A sign painter should know as they use it on canvas products. By all means, go for it- you will enjoy the coat more than any store bought garment you could possibly ever own!

Yes,the texture of the leather can be a problem.Especially when Pinstriping.Probably not as much of a problem doing nose art.And no Silicone waterproofing before painting!

    Overspray,
    Thank you for the recommendation!
    Thats too cool... [IMG]

I would be happy to do it.
G V.... There are SO many talented people on here that I think you could just pick one at random and get a GREAT jacket out of it. I don't know if Barnett or Johnny Ace paints jackets, but both of them make some KILLER artwork. There are mucho more on here too who could paint the hell outta that jacket....!!!

    Thanks Guys,
She is going to check in with the two folks Unkl Ian suggested first since both are within a couple hours of us and being able to talk face to face really helps you get what you want and eliminates miscues. Thanks to all who weighed in on this, Kim says to tell you thanks as well.
