I know this is waaayyyy off topic and understand it may be deleted... This is a photo of my grandmothers' brother and all of his children seated in the rear of a station wagon for a news paper article. Over the years my grandmother and her brothers fell out of touch. She is now trying to find them and make contact with them before its too late. I know the HAMB family is large, as is her brothers family, if there is any chance anyone reading this knows any of the people in this picture please contact me via pm right away. I have exhausted all the public people searches and have come up empty handed...Her brothers (pictured) name is Floyd Varner and was born in 1930 in Pennsylvania, she has another brother named James who was born in 1933 they both moved to Ohio after she left Pennsylvania in the mid 60's.....

From the Social Security death index a Floyd J. Varner died in Shippensburg, Pa in 2008. This one was born 9 Nov 1935. That would have made him about 25 in the newspaper article.

There are a number of Varners in Shippensburg, Pa. including a Paul Varner.
There is a Paul Varner in Thompsontown, PA that is close to the correct age to be one of the twins.

There are several James Varners on the SSDI from PA.

The only one listed born in the 1930s was James H. Varner born 3 Sept 1932 and died 5 June 1997 in Houtzdale, Pa.

Unfortunately we don"t have any social security numbers, that would make it a heck of a lot easier....

@Model A Vette, My Grandma was born in 1935 and Floyd was 5 years older than her so Floyd J. Varner isnt him....I do believe Floyds middle name was William. Yesterday I found an address for a Floyd in Painesville,Ohio unfortunately he does not have a phone so I guess my option on that one is snail mail or trying to contact one of his neighbors.

As for James, his middle name was Russell and the most promising info I have for him also has no known phone number attached to it....

As for Paul, I have talked to 13 Paul Varners born between 1954 and 1960 with no luck

Thanks for all the help fellas, keep any info coming....

    I found:
    Neva A. Varner in Chesterland, Ohio;
Eva M. Varner married to Robert Jaite, 119 Fifth Ave, Chardon, OH 44024
    Neva A. Varner, Chesterland, OH
    John T. Verner, Chardon, OH

It looks like the Floyd I found has a wife named Claudette if your grandmother remembers her name.

Okay, Im currently writing letters based on the info provided by Model A Vette....I cant remember the last time I had to sit down and write a letter and put a stamp on an envelope. (I actually had to go buy envelopes) Wow, I am amazed on how much I (we) depend on computers and cell phones these days. Thanks for all the help, I hope my grandmother gets the answer to her prayers with one of these letters.....If anyone has any other info, dont hesitate to send it this way....

    pretty cool story.
along shot, but does your grandma have a social # herself?
i guess back then you had to go the social office and get your #. maybe being a twin one of her records may show family members # if they registered.

my dad had an old friend find him that way. back in the 50's they went to the social office together to get their cards. he always remembered that their # where 1 digit off. many years later he was able to track my dad down with that info.

what about any brothers that may have be military?
maybe you could pull some info from the servicing branch?

    good luck

I tried the phone number and it was re issued to someone just recently....

That being said, I did send letters to a Floyd Varner and to a James Varner (her brothers) and actually received a phone call from James this morning, he was tickled to hear that my grandma has been searching for him. I told him to sit by the phone and not move, I then called grandma and gave her his phone # and she called him back and they chatted on the phone for several hours. James knows the location of Floyd, but stated that they had not spoken in roughly 10 years. From what I understand, I believe I did send a letter to the correct Floyd, so now I guess its just a waiting game to see if he gives me a call.....

Thank you to everyone for all the help, I truly appreciate it. You dont know how happy we've made my Grandma...

Glad I could be of help!
One of my hobbies is tracking people down! I started tracking down my own long lost relatives while searching my family's history.
It is great to hear that your Grandma found her family members still living!

Yaaaaaay! Awesome, dirtybirdpunk. Props for your efforts, and congratulations on accomplishing your goal. So glad you found James, and I hope you can contact Floyd as well...or he contacts you. The fact that James knows where he's at is a good thing. I hope that all involved welcome the reunion. It's one of the absolute saddest things when family members turn away from each other. God bless your family and best wishes to your grandmother and her brothers.

And way to go Model A Vette and the rest of you for helping a brother HAMBer out.

Just got back from grandmas house, she said it was a blessing and thanks and a big hug to all involved, When I asked how long it had been since she talked to James and she said it was shortly after her oldest brother Delbert had died in a motorcycle accident in 1974, thats 36 lost years and shes doesnt even remember why they stopped talking, they plan on talking often and exchanging photos....

That's awesome. I'm glad you were able to remake a connection. My mom was adopted and about 6 months ago, thanks to many various internet tools, I was able to hunt down one of her biological brothers and we've been able to reconnect with an entirely new family that we've never known. It's great.

    Hi!!
We are directly related!!! My dad (Paul Varner Pamela's twin brother) is my dad!!!!!! Now, I need your help. The same help you sought with finding your grandmas brother. I ask of you. (Floyd Varner obviously is my grandpa) PLEASE help me connect with the family pictured. I've been searching for over 15 years. (My name is Judy Marie Varner, daughter of Paul Edward Varner). I know this seems weird but I came across your thread with one of my many google searches. Please contact me. (you and i are also close in age. 07/1981) just crazy a family I've never known and never knew why. I'd love to get the chance to learn and communicate. I HOPE you still use this account and I hear from you soon.
    Regards
    Judy!!!
Ps(yes I joined the site so that I could contact you I was so excited!)
