Anyone planning on going to the service and graveside on Saturday want to meet up around 9:00 for some breakfast? Do a little reminiscing... PM me or post some ideas here...
I posted on the other thread about Dan being in the hospital...figured I should say something here...Dan's good friend Max Brogdon called me yesterday about 30min after Dan p***ed away...I have been thinking about him for two days...Dan and I say around a the swap meets and talked about much more than hot rods...he gave me a lot of advice about business, life, family, and more...he had a certain wisdom about him that I found very interesting - a wisdom that was complete backed by a kind heart and demeanor...we live in a society were people too often do far less than what they should, and often fail to live up to what they portend to be as a person. Dan was not that guy. He lived the life that he claimed to live. I met Dan about ten years ago when he was building the Tudor that he is so famous for - the black highboy with the hemi - Kevin Nelson here in Daytona built the hemi - and he did the pre-***embly on the whole car - I built the headers on that car, the engine mounts, redid the firewall for the hemi..blah blah...my first ride in real '32 Ford was in that car...no interior..only the windshield gl*** and the open headers...Kevin wouldn't let me drive. There are a few pictures above of Dan's Tudor taken in Daytona - if you look behind the car, my stock Tudor is sitting there - that day at the swap meet Dan and I wanted to take some pics of his next to my stocker - I told him it would be cool if we parked them side by side and took some pics...he agreed, and tossed me his keys...that was a strange momemt getting to drive his sedan....the car that started it all for me, the one I lusted after so much years ago. I've now built, owned and sold so many '32s....but him tossing me the keys so nonchalantly. I was "allowed" to drive it!! It was like I had grown up right then. I told Dan the story..he laughed and said he only let me drive it hoping I would let him drive my new slick roadster... Spring Daytona is this weekend....going to be odd out there.. ramble over
Damn...that ****s. He always came to our shows. I talked to him several times but never knew his name.He was a super-great person. I am saddened by this. R.I.P. brother!
I copied this from the other thread, looks like the family is encouraging a hot rod procession. Thanks for the info Jimmy... For those interested visitation will be Friday, March 27, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins Ga. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Southside Baptist Church, the Reverends Bruce Brookshire and Don Rehner officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. His wife and son asks that we come dressed in our car attire and bring your cars. As of now his life long friend will be driving Dans 32 behind the family car and all others hotrods follow. Jimmy
Todd - I will try to get down that way. Rain is tough with no wipers, I think Dan would get a kick out of it though. I ran him at Reynolds Drag Strip last summer. He pulled up to my left. The tree went down and I nailed it. Left him. About 3/4 of the way down I saw him coming p***ed. Big grin. He got me by a car length. At the pits he got out and laughed, "I almost shut off the air conditioner at half track, you had me worried." He was Golden. You are missed Dan. Tony
Well said - No doubt Dan would enjoy a string of hot rods following him for his last ride. I am sick I won't be able to go.
Tony, Thanks for sharing that... the first time I smiled all week... I am really hoping the weather doesn't spoil this, it could be the biggest cruise in Warner Robins has ever seen...
Really sorry to hear about this. Condolences to his family, even though I didn't know him personally, wish I could help on the procession.
