Yesterday, I found my younger son not breathing in his crib. He is almost 3 months old. I was able to do what CPR I could remember until help came. The paramedics were able to get his heart going and he took a mercy helicopter flight to Rochester, NY. Right now, we do not know much about his condition. Here is what we do know: he has a strong pulse and good blood pressure. He was without air for at least a few minutes, and they are very concerned about his brain functions at this time. There will be lots of testing and waiting. My other little boy turns two next week, and he loves his little brother. We all need him to pull through. Any prayers you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Any of you who work to help out families in need, such as paramedics, nurses, doctors, guys who let little kids sit in their cars - thank you for all you do. I will update when I can. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and think about our little Jake. ***Update*** Our news does not look good. After a CT scan today, we learned that Jake has considerable brain damage. His heart is beating on it's own. He is otherwise unresponsive. Over the next day or two, he will either let go, or possibly be able to breath on his own. That is likely all he could possibly regain. My wife and I are faced with some tough decisions and times ahead. We are fortunate to have lots of support from our family and friends. It warms our hearts to get so many well wishes from all over the country. Writing about it helps, but I am at a loss for words. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and yours today. I can't even imagine what you've gone through already and what you have yet to come, stay strong your family needs you. Luck and a prayer, Mike
Regardless of what you think... this is not your fault... Crib deaths are very very common. Your actions saved his life. I pray your son doesnt have any effects from this. You are a good father and you did your best. Don't think otherwise.
As the father of 2 young girls, the thought of my children not breathing in their crib was always frightening to me. Perhaps I am overprotective of them, but your story hits home - my family's thoughts and prayers are with you. You are a brave person and your efforts to save your son weren't in vain.
Prayers for Jake and your whole family. Awesome ...you were able help your child the way you did. Remember to keep the Faith, for our God is just! I have a boy who is 4 months, so i understand your concern. what ever happens don't give up hope. best wishes and many blessings.
My heart fell when I read your post, know that we are concerned and praying for you and your young family. Jon
Many prayers are being sent to the man upstairs. Your son will pull through this thanks to your quick actions and fatherly love. Keep us informed as to how he is. 41 Dave
Prayers for health for your son, skill for the doctors and peace for you and yours. Seems like yesterday mine were that size.
Prayed right after reading your first post. God knows all about your son's situation. Put your faith and trust in Him and He will see you through this. I'll pray for the wisdom and skill of the doctors and all of those who have him in their care. May God bless. Frank
prayer sent............. as a father of a child who had this same problem I know that feeling of helplessness, BUT there are machine that is used that will set off an alarm when ever this happens(wish I could remember the name of it). our son had to use one for about the 1st yr & when he would stop breathing an alarm would go off. so PLEASE ask you doctor about it. even though the alarm will scare the crap outta you if it does go off, its also gives you peace of mind knowing he's being watched even while you're sleeping....
