Sory for the O/T but I need to do a destructive reboot to get rid of trojans and viruses and **** like that. I tried spysweeper, and it didn't fix it. This computer is only a few months old and it's like it's filled with tar. I want to save all of my e-mails, but, when I do, I can't get them to run from the disk. It needs to import them, or something, and every option I try isn't working. I'm using Windows XP and Outlook Express. I know, this is pretty vague, but I have alot of stuff I have to save and it's pissin' me. Thanks, JOE
Try going here first if you haven't already: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and click on the "Scan Now, It's Free!" link and say Yes to the popup. It's just installing the latest virus engine. When that's done choose your hard drive(s) and it might be able to clean you up. It can take a while to finish, so don't be in a hurry. Then there's this which you should have installed anyway if you don't already, it's free: Spybot Search & Destroy And then you should also have this, it's free: Ad-Aware Spybot and Ad-Aware are similar, but they will each catch things the other one might have missed, so it's good to use them both. And this is free too: Avast - Anti-virus. You should run Spybot, AA and go to Trend Micro once a week. I just leave Avast on to catch anything on a daily basis, but I've rarely run it to check for viruses. It updates frequently - by itself - and it tells you that it's updated. It actually talks to you. And you should have had a firewall. This is what I use and it's also free!: Sygate Personal Firewall If you get that and you have the XP firewall on, turn off the XP firewall and use Sygate. Don't run them both. This is the best site I've found for computer questionw such as your e-mail problem: Virtual Dr. The best e-mail program to use to avoid all the holes in OE that let you get all those viruses is this one and it's....FREE!: Thunderbird You can import your OE mail to this program too. So you won't lose anything.
I agree with spybot and adaware, it will free up a lot of piggyback programs. They are both good, but make sure you update them before you run them and watch out for what you click on on sites. Oh yea, the XP firewall ****S. I use zonealarm and Panda anti-virus for my email. Chris
