In Texas you can shoot someone to defend your property, yes that means shooting a stereo thief from your balcony. You won't get arrested, but the scumbags family will sue your ass and probably win in civil court.
It sucks when some idiots dont care about the difference between "yours and mine". I dont feel sorry for any of those that didnt succed in stealing the car or stereo, and all they got was a beating! This is how my cousin found his car two weeks ago, he parked it in a small town at the churchs parkinglot, and left it for the weekend. He had some problems with the engine, and had to wait to get it towed. In the meantime the kids from the town had their fun with the car, they couldnt get it started so instead they apparently decided to ruin it! They also stole some of his stuff from inside the car, and two of the lights from the front, the two lights they couldnt get off was also smashed... We are still looking for those who did it, the cops didnt even come and had a look at the car, so I think we have to settle it ourselves... This is how it used to look:
