  4. Keep in mind the car mags like red cars the best and yellow ones aren't too far behind as far as cover color preferences go.
Reason being, they only have a second or two to catch a potential purchasers eye.

And after having said that, I'm looking at two new car mags sitting here on the desk and both have blue roadsters with white scallops outlined in red on the covers.
They aren't as eye catching as the red cars, but they are stand out roadsters and that's what caught my eye.
What really makes the magazine stand out are the title font colors and style.

The cover on your book works for me, but I think the key thing is having some color in a well styled cover font so as to catch the eye.

40StudeDude has an excellent point with moving up the blurb under the title and having your name be the only thing at the bottom.
If folks like your book they'll be looking for the next one by looking for your name as well as a title.

In addition to the changes already mentioned, you might consider doing the title and subtitle in embossed silver. Perhaps it would fit the look that you seem to be going for more than the red and orange.

The other guys are right - the subtitle should be moved up directly under the title, and the fonts need to reflect the character of the book. Using sepia tones or duo tones - definitely!

I submitted my post before seeing that the thread continued onto additional pages... sorry... I thought embossed silver would work well against the black background, but after seeing bumpstick's design...he definitely nailed it!

    His design has my vote.
