O/T Stories from Compton/Lynwood in 60's

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Irish Mike, Mar 18, 2006.

  1. Anyone have any stories from growing up in Compton, Lynwood or surrounding areas Bellflower, Paramount, Downey ,Long Beach ect. in the 50's/60's/70's? One of mine is about 68 or 69, I was in sixth grade and had a paper route. On my route was Service center/ Custom city. In one of the nearby shops Kelly the pinstriper worked. I was mesmerized watching him work. He'd do cars, cycle helmets, and writing on the back window which was popular at the time. I had never seen anything like that. Needless to say, a lot of people received their papers late the year I had that route. BTW he's still striping in Bellflower with his son.

  3. There were quite a few guys that started in the area. Jim "Jake" Jacobs, Dan Woods, Barris, Von Dutch, Cerny, Juinor Conway, Watson, and many others. Plus the amount of custom cars from the area is unbelievable. Even the Early Times car club started there.
