Anyone have some recommendations for some rocking surf music? Honestly don't even know where to start looking, and I figure a few of you would have some good suggestions. If anyone asks me if I've heard of the Beach Boys, I'll have to pop ya.
For good Neo-surf or surf revival, I listen too........ Los Straitjackets Man or Astroman? Shadowy men on a shadowy planet Fifty Foot Combo For cl***ic sounds I listen to....... Centurions The Ventures **** Dale Also try....... Mark Mothersbaugh ( Devo ) project called Wipeouters Aqua velvets plan9 The challengers And never forget the Mighty Link Wray !
The Detroit guys will know Elvis Hitler (not so surf) but he's a bit harder than surf. Another great one is Snake Out. Len Puch has a 'myspace' site and says he plans to some day put the Snake Out music on there. I have a few old c***ettes that don't play anymore, they were by Garageland Studios I think (owned and operated by Len). He does some cool grille shells now.
Yes, most deffinetly, they ****in rock. I was thinkin the same question yesterday, so I'm interested, too, as I'll soon be moving to the middle of Ari-****in-zona. I need to stock up on the stuff.
I don't know if you'd consider it good or not but I listen to The Ventures Fans Radio on Yahoo Music quite a bit. I don't know if this will work or not, but I'll give it a shot.Go here and click on The Ventures Fan Station. http://music.yahoo.com/ar-269854---The-Ventures
Los Straightjackets, yeh. Also try: The Sandblasters The Finks Boss Martians Curse of the Surf Trio The Phantom Surfers - (The exciting west coast GO sound of model road racing) Blue Hawaiians The Impalas Death Valley - (Que pasta)
go online to live365 then go to other genres and scroll down to surf music. you should hear most of the artist mentioned above. enjoy
Check these out: http://www.zptduda.com/cowabunga/ http://www.reverbcentral.com/ http://www.poprecords.com/ I like the Eliminators, the Penetrators, Polla Del Mar, The Halibuts.
And no one mentioned the Hellacasters? Surf meets spy movie music with playing that will impress real musicians. Check those guys out! Can't help but get stuff done in the garage when the Hellacasters are on the player.
I see the Ventures already listed & my other favorite not listed yet is Jan & Dean - you can find their CD's at amazon.com + of course The Beach Boys. Other lesser known surf/car bands; The Ripchords + Ronnie & The Daytonas. I liked the surf music because of the basic themes of cars, women and of course the beach. Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
You got it Phil! At least your lucky enough to be closer to the water. But in Arizona at least 2 out of three ain't bad (women and cars) Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
**** Dale, Ventures, The Pyramids, Ripchords, Jan and Dean, Sufari's, Chantays, The Challengers, The Beach Boys-All good. Greg
If you can find MOM (Music for Mother Ocean) #3, there is a collaboration bewteen Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys) and Brian Setzer, doing the most rockin' version of "Little Deuce Coupe" I have ever heard... if that doesn't get you moving, you are clinically dead...
