I checked my transmission fluid about a week ago and it smelled burnt. I asked my father if I should change it and he said that he's heard from several people that changing the fluid can actually make the problem worse (changing the fluid would push it over the edge, making it break). Has anyone else ever heard this? or is it just a wives (errr husbands) tale?

  4. A fluid and filter never hurts. I had a truck I thought I roasted, it was run so low on fluid at least twice (once before I got it) that it would no longer go. Changed the filter and filled it and it wasn't perfect, something was screwed up in the valve body or kickdown linkage, but it got me where I needed to go until I sold it, it didn't seem to slip or have any other trouble.

Change the fluid and filter. If you ****** fluid is burnt, it's on borrowed time anyways as-is.
