While i am still relatively new here, ive come to respect many people of the HAMB.The car i currently own is not HAMB material, but i've certainly admitted that i wish i wasn't this far along on the build, because i've become disheartened with what i have.I'd like to get it driveable so i could get the most value for it,but sell it and build a proper hot rod, worthy of the HAMB.I have not tried to profess that my current project is a "traditional Hot Rod"nor do i get offended by"good natured"HAMB'rs if they want to kid me about it, because i know it isn't "traditional".That doesn't mean,i am not as interested in "traditional" rides as anyone else on this site, just that i currently am not building one.I have a varied past in motorsport,as my bio states.I've crewed on t/a hydroplanes,A t/a funny car(with backing from GM Goodwrench),and even a t/f harley that was a Hells Angels ride.I'm also proudly "Canadian".Unfortunatly yesterday i tried to reply to a valid question on the board,i also tried to get another hamb'r to correct his spelling and turn off his caps lock which i've seen many people on here ask.He also was not replying to the original question asked.Rather he insulted the original poster, made a derogatory comment about people from my country and the people who serve that country. My father and 1rst gen. hot rodder, happens to have served our country as a "dudley do right" as this other hamb'r refered to.In this country the R.C.M.P. also serve around the world along side your military in war zones.I have not insulted his cars, his country,or the serving men and women of your country.Nor would i.But when people like this drive away good people who try to contribute constructively everyone else loses.I have some interesting historical photos from Canadian hot rodding in Southern Ont.that i wanted to post, but now i think "why bother"if my contributions are not going to be appreciated. Thank You for reading this long post and so long!

Don't let one or two bad seeds ruin your time here, there are a LOT of great people on this board, and there are bound to be a few that are asses. You can't please everyone, just please yourself and ignore ignorance.

I frequent several message boards and have found there are boneheads on all of them. You can't help it that you were born in Canada any more than I could help being born in Oklahoma. The difference was I was smart enough to move to Texas in 1981. ;)

The HAMB is a melting pot of all types of people and nationalitys from around the world,,,we don't always agree with each other but we All should be here for the same reason,,,,,our love for old cars,,,traditonal HOT RODS to be more to the point.

There are some real jerks here,,but for the most part they are few and far between,,,you just happened up on one.

Speaking as someone who has been here a few years,,,sometimes you need thick skin because every comment is not warm and fuzzy.

And as for spelling,,,I ain't the best.

But the guys that leave the CAP LOC ON AND GO ON AND ON WITHOUT A BREAK DRIVE ME NUTS!

Hang in there,,don't let one ASS keep you from enjoying the HAMB. HRP

BTW,,,I have been called a SOUTHERN REDNECK in a post in the not too distant past,,,did I let it bother me,,,no way,,,,I probably am.

I find that in general, car guys are a pretty tough lot. They usually have to be, working in bad conditions, on greasy, or rusty pieces of junk, getting cut, burned, smashed fingers, splinters, etc. while doing what we do best.
That said, they are also a bit tough in personality, as well. Thin skinned people can easily get offended, and hurt. People not used to profanity, will be shocked. Generalizations, criticism, predjudice, stereotyping, are usually part of normal conversation.
But in all, car guys are also, usually, helpful, caring, generous and friendly.
Of course there are always bad apples in the crowd, but once you get into the 'group' it's pretty good.

Unfortunatley and fortunatley the HAMB has grown so quickly in the last year. Alot of folks here behind the veil of a computer think they have a right to say what they want without ramifications. I am sure this person wouldn't say those things to your face.

Please continue to contribute about your hot rod builds and history. Thats what this place is supposed to be all about as opposed to all the bull shit drama!!

I am new to the HAMB also...new to computers to be exact....hate the things really, but the hamb and ease of communication are the positives....if some joker is being negative about Canada i would tell them to take a look at my truck from 1959, or do some more reasearch on the hot rod scene there...i was checking out some early drag cars recently and the guy had mags from the 1950,s on up... stumbled across a canadin show car issue and was blown away...post your pics man, i for one are interested and i am sure others who have an appreciation for history and cars in general will be to...smart asses crave attention,we seem to enjoy that feeling of pride that comes from accomplishment, not anybodys approval..

    My ass hurts...
Be proud of your service, heritage and your hobby.
You dont need us to pat your back and tell you its alright do ya?
Take your personal grievances to the source and write the fellow a PM if you feel the need. It doesnt have anything to do with the Hamb. I dont like your subject line.

I saw what post you are talking about,,,, get over it. He was fuckin with you to get your goat,,, and looks like he got it, or you wouldn't have posted this post.

Worst part was, you threw the first stone AND jumped in something that had nothing to do with you. I'm sure the ORIGINAL poster didn't need you "standing up" for him. Who gives a flying ratts ass if Desoto keeps his caps on or offers his OPPINION?????

I too would have been offended.. Take the guy out and wipp his ass. It doesnt have anything to do with the Hamb. There is nothing I dislike more than disrespect.
Many times a simple one on one will clear the air. As you know Jim, the Hamb is much more kinder and gentler as before. One guys action doesnt reflect the Hamb. That was my point.

I had posted a similar reply to that thread, but decided it would only egg on the confrontation. You asked a good question and got a good reply. I asked about Toyota 5 speeds as Chevy T5s are hard to find while Ryan was on his honeymoon and the self appointed tradition police descended on me. However i got a PM with plans for an adapter. It's a shame he didn't post it, but I don't blame him for not wading in. . You can still ask the occasional MII or Jag question as long as we respect the tone of the board. Obviously rants don't respect the tone of the board, but This is a good site as it is only slightly moderated and I don't expect Ryan to spend his holidays watching these folks. Now for a tip. If you would just as soon ignore some asshole, click on his name and go to his public profile. At th e top right is an Ignore Posts By This Person button. Use it. Life is too short to have to put up with a lot of unnecessary shit.

Didnt read the post this referrs to but heres my 2 cents:

Putting up with jerks is the FEE for all the other good info, people, parts and experience that comes from the HAMB. Im pretty new here too and a memeber of alot of other forums. Read the negative comments, if you cant take anything constructive from them, then ignore them and be happy.

  20. I don't recall anyone ever claiming to be polically correct on here or that the HAMB is a touchy feely place. Actually a few years back it was a pretty rough place to hang out some of us can remember being called hoodlums and being proud that it was true.

That said getting your feelings hurt is not at all fun and although I don't feel compelled to appologize for something that someone else said to you I am sorry you feel the way you do.

I probably wouldn't leave over it but I came up in a different world than you did. I do think if you have something to ad that you should probably just stay but that's entirely up to you. See ya either here or somewhere.

Damn that was a long paragraph. Have you considered using apostrophes and breaking up your thoughts into shorter paragraphs to make it easier to read?

  24. In a Darwinesque sort of way, jackasses serve a useful purpose here. They help weed out the pussies.

I wonder if Walgreens sells some kind of salve for dry, irritated manginas.
