    Holy ****!

I pay $1030/mo to BUY my 3-bedroom ranch here in Kansas City... and that's before a refi. The house cost $116k. An expensive one (like VERY upsacle neighborhood, 5+ bedrooms, 3 or 4 car garage, etc) is $300k out here!

Damn guys... y'all have some crazy-*** prices out there... I'm a Mac guy, in the industry for many, many years. I deal with colks in the Bay area all the time - now I know why I never moved out there. The cost of living there or in LA is nuts!

If you are going to be working out of the hall you never know where the next job is going to be located. One job could be downtown LA the next could be in Ontario or Irvine or Corona or Pasadena etc. etc. etc. A commute is inevetable. Anytime you get on the outskirts either North/South, the beach or the I.E. your commute will be longer. Get some thing in a central location. Anywhere along the 57 fwy corridor is good because you can easily go in any direction. Unless you reallly enjoy the beach or the desert or the mountains.......you get the idea the choices are endless and so are the sugestions here. The beauty here is you are planning to rent so a move is not such a big deal.
    Good luck

    from So Cal

You could buy a house for cheap in Pomona right now like I did, avoid the low I.Q. high deserts especially Palmdale! I say this from experience! I lived there for almost 3 years as a kid and hated it for many reasons I will not explain on a message board! Besdies being close to the fairplex, im witihn 3 miles or less of all these fwys. 10, 60, 57, 210, 71. The schools here arent so great, BUT depending on what part you live in its actually Claremont school district in some parts of Pomona, and they have pretty good ratings there. Or you can do what im going to do and use a La Verne address ( I happen to live in the part closer to La Verne) and enroll your kid/s at a La Verne school wich are even nicer....

Well I have read all the posts and I cannot see that anybody has mentioned.... lets hear it for Orange - lots of hot rodders, beautiful Old Town - rents okay (for So Cal) - probably get you a decent garage too. Mixed area from blue collar to upper crust - take your pick. Close to 5, 57, 91 (Fwy from Hell) 22 & 55 fwys (leads to 405), 20 mins to the beach, and the oldest continuously operating drugstore in O.C. - Watson's since 1899. Rod shops galore, 15 minutes out into the real wilderness - lakes, hiking, whatever you pretty much want. 15 mins to Disneyland, I hr 15 to downtown SD or Palm Springs, around 2 hrs 15 mins to Santa Barbara - if you plan it right. Got it's own airport - John Wayne.

When I moved to SoCal years ago I arrived at LAX with two suitcases and no clue where I was going to live. I lived 8 years in HB and then moved to the Orange area and absolutely love it. I found LA to uptight, stressed and self important, the SFV too hot and crowded.

We have a great hometown type car show - all types but mainly rods and customs - coming up next Sunday April 20th - 400 vehicles, parked in and around Old Town Orange Plaza (Circle). Come check it out and bring the family.

I hope you guys noticed the original post was Feb 07. I'm just guessing but I think by now he probably already found a place. Still, lots of good info for anyone else looking to move I guess.
