I've posted a lot of early Custom stuff and thought it was about time to look at some Hot Rods. These photos are from the 1954 Oakland Roadster Show. The captions are from the program.....Enjoy! 1951 A.M.B.R. car Future A.M.B.R. Car
R&C RON - Wow! ... These are fantastic! ... Thanks so much for sharing them and for including the captions with each photo ... Very much appreciated!
These pictures show what traditional hot rods are: FORDS. Notice that there are no Dodge or International trucks, no 48-52 Dodge cars. No bread or milk trucks.
Thanks-great to see the "real" rides. first pic of '32 looks much like a survivor roadster in Hawaii in another thread here. always thought Blackie's Roadster as being one of the most beautiful ever.
That first car sure looks like a model A unless someone skillfully grafted A windshield posts to a '32.
Loved growing up in the Bay Area and was lucky enough to have a Dad the took me to all the early Roadster Shows...
That '34 was Dean Moon's. (Moon Equip't Co.) He planted the Studie in there to promote his sponsored Studebaker speed parts company, "STU-V". R&C did a feature on the car, and Dean was showing some of the new pieces. (like a dual 2-bbl intake...)
Roadster was San Jose's own "Hula Girl". (Igniters car club) There was a near-twin, built by another member, titled "Hula Boy". Both roadsters were light silver-blue with darker blue scallops, made all the local shows and were downtown any day of the week. "Hula Girl" parked in front of the American Auto Supply daily, on the Alameda across from Tiny's Drive In. Last time I saw either of them was around '58... I also claimed Blackie's roadster as MY "First Love!"
And the rear of the car sectioned too. Look at the first picture and compare the rear quarters to the deuce roadster quarters behind it. Clearly a Model A with '32 frame and fenders, so well done it fooled most everyone even back then.
Great to see Ak Miller's "Caballo de Hiero" (Irin Horse) from the 54 Carrera Panamericana. Here it is restored ar Amelia Island Concours.
