Cracked this thing off while we were fixin' to rebuild the carb on my buddy's 57 chevy wagon, thought we could easily replace it... Now I don't even know what to call the thing... Its a 1/2" spacer that sits on top of the intake manifold & under the carb, like a thick shim that makes the carb sit at the right height for the linkage to align. Carb is a one barrel rochester... I'm clueless, anyone know what this shim type thing is called & where to find one? Thanks
It's a spacer, but it's also an insulator- keeps the carb cooler. You'll want to run that spacer. Reason being, if you look at it, there's a small cut out. That cut out matches up to a vacuum port on the base of the carb. That vacuum port is what controls the power valve. I made this mistake with dual carbs. Two carbs, full rich- all the time. It's a real b*tch to tune. I'm not sure where you can get one for sure. I'd bet any of a number of catalog places have them (Nat. Chevy ***oc., Chev's of the 40's, etc...) If you can't find one, let me know, I think I've got a couple spares.
is it gone, or broken? could have one made to match out of phenolic, if it comes down to it, i have one.
If it's just broken you can JB weld it. I have done it on one before and it has lasted a couple years. I think Chevy Duty sells them for like $6 or something cheap. I have ordered tons of stuff from them with never a problem.
Thanks for all your help guys! I found the part on chevy duty for $6. "Insulator" was the key word that I didn't know - thanks. Hokey Rocks.
