I collect old TVs Bob, I've gotta bunch of 'em, including a couple of Japanese space helmet jobbies.

They still make Capehearts for real?

I don't think they even exist anymore do they? I know they were owned by Ford once.
My muther in law has a Philco TV from the '70s, stupid thing still works but the lovely plastic wood grain trim is peeling off. It's gotta be one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.
My dad used to work at Mullard's which was a huge manufacturer of TVs and electronics in England, I believe they too might have gone the way of the dodo.
Nothing lasts forever, empires fall, saints die and species become extinct.

Oh and yeah, I'd love to have a '70 Kawasaki H1.

I thought Philco changed their name to Phillips. The bulbs in my Sony Vega LCD bigscreen went out and they put Phillips bulbs in it because Sony doesn't make their own bulbs. Hell, what does it matter? They and the Saudis own half of the US anyway.

No man, Phillips is actually a very old Dutch company.
I'd like to have a rubber glove company called Feelco.

Nope, I don't believe that they do anymore. I was just kinda reminescing about the first TV my folks bought in 1950 and it was a Capeheart as I remember. I didn't know you collected those. That's cool, have you got a pic of the space helmet one?

When I was about 9, my mother bought me my first record player. It was a Fischer Price.

I had Thriller on vinyl. I also had Giddyup 409, dead man's curve, and Lil Duece coupe on 45....

I used to play them all the time.

    I like records

This particular unit didn't use batteries...

It plugged directly into the wall...

I think the walls in my room were sort of an egg-shell color, and my record player was the same color with a dark brown platter. I found the contrast appealing...

Man did that thing make the records sound good.

My dad used to tell my mom "Why'd you get him that thing? People stopped listening to records back when Nixon was honest."

    I don't know. I wasn't alive then.

You would have thought so, but we have a thread running on what's your coolest peice of speed equipment, how much horsepower you got, and a how much money you got thread too.

Boredom is obviously a factor on the HAMB at the moment.

    We'll have to ask japchris...

Jap-choppers were cool in the late '60's and early '70's. Wild panel jobs and flake and chrome everywhere, totally raked out frames, neat. Just not here.

Yeah, I got this sweet '61 GE 19" all souped up with oversize tubes and metalflake'd paint on it, 12" over rabbit ears, and dice on the tuning dial. Took the rubber feet off the bottom so now it totally lays circuit board. I hate it when people call it a Rat TV, because it's a traditionally styled, Hot TV.

Can we get any more off topic?

No they wouldn't. Don't you remember all the ruckus the volks rods created on here awhile back? They looked 50's/60's but no one was embracing them.

Crucify me but my FAVORITE car that I have built to date was my '71 Datsun 510. Coil-over suspension, camber plates, tower trusses and BRE wheels. The thing flat embar***ed many Euro sporties(read Porsche) and that was with the race spec L18 4-banger/240z 5-speed. I eventually put a Mazda 13B Rotary in it from an RX-7 and it became a true giant killer, 3-inch straight pipes(who needs a fart can) that belched fire on a hard decel. We became pregnant and I foolishly unloaded it out of financial fear, God I hope to find it again someday.

I understand being pro-American. But if you're saying you dislike Japanese product, and you like American AND European product, that sounds a bit shady. It makes it sound like you only buy stuff made by white people. And that's not cool.

What I like is a weird motor swap. Get a little Japanese car, put a big American motor in it. Or put a little Japanese motor in a big American car if you like. And a Mazda ****el in just about anything is pretty neat.

There's something really odd about having strong allegiances to a corporate product. What are people doing wearing T-shirts with Coca-Cola logos? I love soda so much that I want to promote it! Being pro-Ford or pro-Chevy is like being pro-Red Wings or pro-Patriots. Except instead of cheering for a team playing a sport, you're cheering for a huge corporate bureaucracy. I don't really get it. I like some products, I don't like others. I hope my neighbor can keep his job, but I don't want people in China to starve either.

    I'm just babbling.
