So, I'm working on a 34 ford 5w coupe for a guy and he has a set of clean doors he bought to swap onto it. The trouble is the doors are a little less than an inch to tall for the opening. The car is unchopped and the doors fit everywhere else. The hinges line up, body lines are good, latches align well, just to tall. What's up?
You have 4 door sedan front doors. They are damn near the same, but tall in the rear corner. You will also notice the upper door hinge is kind of goofy also. The best thing to do is use 5 window door tops, but you can also modify the doors you have with pretty minimal effort. Cut the door tops free and cut a small amount off until it fits in the hole, just like you do when chopping a car. As for the upper hinge, once you have the door fitting in the hole correctly, cut the round piece off the upper hinge and re-weld it where it needs to be. Most likely, there will be a gap where the hinge stub would need to be longer, but you can weld the gap or make a filler piece. Should be a pretty minor procedure for a man of your skill level. Post lots of pics. -Abone.
I just ***-U-MEed you were going to relive the roof of about 4 unnecessary inched while you were there...... -Abone.
