Hello all, I have a 1942 Chevy Special Deluxe. I thought it was the original inline six, however I have doubts. The engine for one looks more like the third gen built in 62, also the engine code doesn't match anything I can fine. If someone has even the slightest idea. what are the cast numbers on the block, near the starter? Does the side cover only extend up to the top of the block, not over the head and up to the valve cover?
I meant to say the plate is near the starter, and not the distributor. As to the side cover I'll look when I take a pic in shortly
Is the numbery you gave, on a plate that is attached to the engine, or is it stamped into the engine block? Look for a number stamped into the engine block, near the base of the distributor. As well as numbers that are part of the block casting, near (or partly hidden from view by) the starter.
