Webber makes an adaptor that mounts two DCOE Sidedrafts to a Four Barrel Manifold. Use the long tubes and you got something that looks real unique.
Yep - the one I was thinking about - Boy that went for stupid money. I'd like to see one like this set up with Rochester 2GCs. I don't know if it's any better than most other intakes, but it sure is different.
do you think that is why it went for so much? like the guy said it had no markings or anything. i wonder if there was somebody out there that new what it was and had to have it because of its rarity?
Needs a couple of big Carters on it, WDOs or something. Design makes sense, each pair of cylinders gets fed off one carb venturi. It went for big $$$ because it's a rare part at at least a couple guys know what it is to know to spend the money on it.
Maybe it was stolen back in the day and they ground the markings off? Just a dumb guess. If thats what they did, they did a great job of it though. Doubtful. Yes I think SOMEBODY knew what it was. He sure wasnt sending the seller the info though. $1575 for an intake with a damn hole in it?!?! Easy fix but Jeez. James
I betcha it is Bohnalite from mid 1930's, and that it was made for a particular boat or racecar and not as a quan***y piece. Bohnalite shared in the development and manufacture of the 180 degree manifold, the first big jump in flathead performance development, and made some special ones for racers and for small manufacturers like boat engine companies using Ford engines. Someone on here sent me a pic of one that seemed to be a 180 degree four bolt two barrel made for use with a 1932 generator! Some used the gigantic Stromberg used on Lincolns of the early thirties.
Stylistically, it looks a great deal like Ford manifold variants used in late 1934 and 1935...details of construction and overall appearance. Note also that a 180 manifold is a pretty sophisticated casting job, beyond the reach of most early speed equipment places!
It is amazing what some of the stuff sells for, I watched an Edmunds dual carb manifold for a Cadillac flathead sell for somewhere around $2200 about a month ago. A couple of years ago one like it, and a pair of Edmunds heads for the FlatCad went for over $5600. Makes me want to dis***emble mine (attached) and sell the parts....
