Since South Carolina has approved year of manufacture license plates I am looking for a chrome frame to use with my tag but haven't had any luck locating the odd sized plate of the 30's. I'm sure somebody here knows of a source. HRP
Get some of the old original accessory ones . They adjust to most sizes . Got mine on eBay and they also re-pop them.........
The big problem is that the states were not consistent back then. There were some accessory frames that were adjustable in both directions. IIRC they were 40 Ford pieces. Measure your plates before you order anything. I'm trying to find a pair for some 1956 Maryland plates. I gave up on my 34 Md. plates. My truck came with 34 Cal plates and a frame but they are a different size than Md. I've see some larger frames on Ebay but they always go for more than I want to spend. I'm thinking of having the guy in Fla. that makes the phoney plates do some using my 56 plate numbers so that a standard frame will fit. I'd be liable for not showing the correct plates but it would be tagged and insured correctly. I have collected some neat frames. I even have a California Ford dealer frame with my last name. Mills Ford. I'd love to use that.
That's what I will probably have to do with the '32 License plate,,5 1/2" X 12 1/4" Drake listed one that will work fine for the '54 wagon.
Take older standard size plates, change the year, paint them the right color and take to DMV and register them to your car. Takes a little welding & body work but Iv'e seen it done many times and never seen DMV catch it.
They won't fit my 34 or 56 Md plates. Do they fit your SC plates? My 32 SC plate was hard to find and more costly than the other states. "the iodine state" I bet they really jump in price now. I could not find any repro adjustables either. I tried an Ebay search but there are way too many modern tag frames for me to wade through them all.
Tommy, the top one is close to fitting my 54 plate and I'll let you know how it works outbut none fit the 1932 South Carolina Iodine state tag,,nothing even close,,,and yeah,,they are EXPENSIVE now. I'm going to use a adjustable frame on the 32. HRP
With the skills on this board I'm sure someone can make you what you are looking for.....................
