picked up this air filter tester the other day
came as just the base, screwed a bulb in, dropped a paper filter on it and something to block the light out the top.
plug it in, push the button and yup, this filter is good.
I assume if no light comes through it's no good? :p

That is cool, what’s crazy is someone manufactured and sold it.

Now that is something! So you know that it’s a sickness? You know, the having to rescue the forlorn puppy. Yes, we all do it occasionally, but you have to fight it. And if you need help with it, you can send it to me so that it doesn’t manifest itself in a manner that causes you to save another puppy, or kittens or other animals and wayward curiosities…

Yes, that was a great sales tool back in the 60's. People wouldn't believe they needed a new air filter until they saw the difference. I would tap their old one and blow air from the inside to outside. That would usually clear it so that they didn't need a new one. Then, you had their trust and they became repeat customers.

Yup we had them show up at one or two of my haunts in the late sixties.
    Did the job.

Yuppers, a sales aid in Chevron stations in the 60's. Excellent for showing that that paper filter was clogged and needed replacing. Great for comparison and showing the customer their dirty one against a clean one.

I wonder if any unscrupulous gas station owners put a 5 watt bulb in their testers, so only dim light would shine through the filter.
