Well summer driving season is here. I was working on a playlist to play in my car. I only dug up 52 songs from my iTunes library and I know there is a lot more than that. So post some of your favorite 1950's & early 60's songs so the whole board can benifit from your fine musical tastes.

    Here are some of mine

    Run Around Sue - Dion
That'll Be The Day - Buddy Holly
    Hound Dog - Elvis
Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On - Jerry Lee Lewis

Great suggestions guys! I did a search and found a bunch of threads but there were more pertaining to wrenching tunes and weren't limited to 50's early 60's music so I decided to start a new thread.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

    1) Buddy Holly has been mentioned, but he needs to be mentioned again.

    2) Some Chuck Berry stuff, probably Johnny B. Good.

    3) Definetly some **** Dale stuff.

    4) You know what, how 'bout some Surfites pieces. They might as well be from the era.

    5) Any collection of music for my use will have a healthy dose of the Bobby Fuller Four!! BOBBY FULLER IS WAY TOO NEGLECTED THESE DAYS!

    6) Don't forget some Ventures. Got to have Walk Don't Run.

    7) The Trashman's Surfer Bird, if you like things like that.

    8) Did I mention **** Dale. Needs to be mentioned again. You need Miserlou, Pipeline, hell, everything he did.

    9) Oh yeah, need some Everly Brothers.

    10) 96 Tears, by ? and the Mysterians.

    Saturday Night Drag Race by
Joe Darensborg and the Flatout Five,
aka Kid Ory's Dixieland Jazz Band
    with ****man Crothers on vocals.

Here's a bit of trivia about the record.

"In 1948, Robert E. Petersen began publishing Hot Rod Magazine, the first national publication for a small but growing group of enthusiasts. Arguably the first hot rod cartoonist, Tom Medley created the "Stroker McGurk" cartoon character while he was also the ad salesman for Hot Rod. Subsequently, he became publisher of Rod & Custom Magazine and helped create the first-ever hot rod swap meet, in the early '50s at the L.A. Roadsters' Father’s Day get-together, and the first Street Rod Nationals in 1970. A top photographer and enthusiastic automotive entrepreneur, Medley also had the idea for Colossal (Enterprises’) Hot Rod Records in the early '50s (although the music was the work of Kid Ory's Dixieland Jazz Band, fronted by ****man Crothers). Colossal's "big hit" was the double-sided "Saturday Night Drag Race," which received an unexpected plaudit in Time magazine and paralleled Arkie Shibley's "Hot Rod Race".

The only way you could buy the record was mail order through Hot Rod Magazine.. for the extravagant price of $1."
