   The quarter mile wasn't a 'thing' back then because cars weren't competitive with motorcycles! I have a December 1952 issue of Science and Mechanics magazine with a long article on the sport of drag racing. Motorcycle were the kings of the sport and the author opined that cars would never be able to compete for top honors.
