  1. 9's... in the '56!?!? Holy crap...that would be one mad mouse motor! Really like that car.

  2. We are about 3150-3175 with me in the seat, about 35-40 lbs.less with Marc. The side windows are 1/4 plexi, the front and rear are original, and the next to go. I'm gonna get lexan front and rear from Pro Glass, that ought to get us down to 3100 with me. Quain said when he built Shannon's car, the stock deck lid (which we also have currently). Was surprisingly heavy, so I'm thinking a glass deck lid would get me to 3050 or less. The doors are steel, but heavily gutted, so I'm not sure how much we'd save with glass doors. My goal for now is 3000 with me. We would like to strip the car sooner or later and repaint it as its wearing all its paint & primer jobs (8-9 layers!) since day 1. The thing is probably wearing over 100lbs. of paint!

That makes me feel good about where I'll be at. It started as a street car that would also see the track sometime. Now the tables have turned. The car will be a little heavy. Because how I built it. But I will have lexan side glass, and a glass trunk lid. Going forward I'll save weight where I can. The car won't be painted this year, but when I do paint it I'll put the proglass front and back windows in. First motor will be low buck and mild to get used to the car. Second motor I'm planning in my head should get me In the nines.

  4. I forgot to mention, the cage is steel, as are the ladder bars and mounts, which look like something off an old locomotive. Quain and I have talked, and at some point, either he, or my nephew who owns J Ed Horton Race Cars, will change all that to chromoly. I'm going to lengthen the ladder bars, and since we have coil over rear shocks, we have take the springs off the shock and give them their own mounts per SEG rule. Probably loose another 75lbs. there. If I could get down to 2900 with me, I think we can make enough steam to run 9.0's-9 teens.

That would be awesome. My cage is steel to. Same with the ladder bars and mounts. It's too late now. I'll have fun with this car throw some more power at it, but won't sweat the weight. I have a 30 model a coupe that I think will get the full treatment tube chassis that looks vintage radiator in the back. Moon tank up front. Blown small block. Then weight wouldn't be an issue with that car. Maybe do hot rod drag week with it. But that's a decade away. If I lived in the south then I would try to conform to the south east gasser rules. My car does minus the blower, but with how Much I have into that stuff it's staying.

  14. I'm covered in semi gloss Krylon dust! I forgot what a good time it is spray painting the underside of your car, while getting covered in over spray. Even better, we have an attached garage, so your lucky to get a can or two laid on before the ole lady comes out complaining that its stinking the house up too. Gonna be nice having a detached garage, and big work shop away from the house.

Found this 1957 Chevy Gasser project on Craigslist in McHenry IL... From pics it needs some love, but it looks like old school gasser... Maybe someone's looking for a project...
