I plan on running a Muncie in my 49 Chevy. Why did you decide to go with a hydraulic throw out vs a fork and linkage?

My dad's overdrive silinoids presented a problem with the original x member , so I opened up the entire underside by plasma ing out everything related to it & the Oem park brake, & mustang 2'd front end. Unreal how freely I can move around the old car now, clearance everywhere. We're using a truck 59 bell housing with the cars original starter, flywheel & clutch set up. I knew mix matching the 55 up 235 truck stuff would present a potential problem with clutch fork angles. The ram hyd bearings are so super simple & tough yet everything's way way easier to work room wise. Less moving parts. Super smooth release & one braided line from point a to b. I was sick of fighting the clutter under the car. Deep down I thing I'm addicted to slicing out old stuff & modifying it . Thanks !

Is that firewall mount kit from Walton fab? Would you mind posting a pic of the swinging pedal set up you have?

    And what's an R10?

R10 is the later 60's early 70s Saginaw overdrive unit. For all interested in these hydraulic set ups for 49-54 cars here's a pic of Walton fab unit I slightly modified it to fit a mopar 7/8 bore master cylinder & used wildwood 3/4 hyd clutch master got from Walton fab, the mopar master is super flyweight compared to the CCP vette job. & it clears the back carburetor better. Hydraulic is so simple and compact. Manual brake / manual ****** model. Had to do minor firewall mod to clear clutch master rod. First cl*** quality from Walton fab. image.jpg

Do you have any other pics of the Walton set up? The website doesn't have any and I would like to see how the clutch pedal is hung.

I am paying attention to this thread.

I have a M-20 that is going behind a 401 Buick with a Speed Gems bellhousing, hopefully roadworthy next year. Since I know nothing about these 4 speeds, I had already picked up, "How to Rebuild & Modify High-Performance Manual Transmissions" By Paul Cangialosi, I didn't realize there was just a dedicated Muncie book by him, "Muncie 4-Speed Transmissions: How to Rebuild & Modify", I'll give that a look.

Thanks for the heads-up; I also didn't realize that Paul wrote a dedicated Muncie book. I just ordered it from Amazon tonight. The M22 wide-ratio transmission in my 37 Ford was built by Paul, and it has been trouble free for four years.

I have not read the thru entire thread so I apologize if this has already been covered.
For those of (us) that insist on being trad. the subject of gear lube should be brought up,
as the new generation of lubes are not compatible with the br*** parts in the older trans.
I won't go into detail because the internet is full of information on this, just remember to use GL-4 in your Muncie and BW T-10. Sta-lube GL-4 is available at NAPA.
Do not use a GL-5 rated lube.

    Jack Vines,

Is it possible to stick the T-85 OD unit on the back of the T-10 4-speed??

Or is this the infamous 4+3 stick ******??

Well, I actually backed up a page on this thread and holy ****, somehow I missed
    The Grump's video--thanks Hackman.
Now I'm not real big on the whole hero worship thing until Jenkins' name comes up, so I had to watch this video a couple of times.
Fourspeedwagon--go back and watch this again, at the 6:00 mark, count the shifts again, check out that windup between 2nd and 3rd gears, that's entertainment right there--thanks.
Something else to pay attention to, look how wobbly that P&G shifter is, all these years we've been doing everything we could to tighten up our shifters and Jenkins was winning with that thing, as you said Bill was the man!!!

Absolutely. He will always be a stand out for me. He was winning with H pattern shifters and the clutch pedal even when clutch less stuff came around. That guy was a hot rodder pure and simple.

  21. Yep, I knew that and for whatever reason typed 1-2 instead of 2-3. Still reminded me of a cat getting his muscles ready to pounce- BAM

Well ordered up a autogear case. I plan on starting to build up a M22 wide ratio.

One more vote for Paul's built Autogear M-22. I got an M-22Z last year for my truck. The 2.98 1st lets me do some of the slow truck things more easily than if I had the usual car gears. Love the gear whine. It's like Two Lane Blacktop when when I stomp on it and hear the side pipe. Both of his books are worth having, unless you just can't relate to anything that isn't Muncie.

I am a Muncie 4 speed only guy. Don't know exactly why but its the only transmission that interests me.

I've always been under the impression the R-10 Borg Warner overdrive, as used by Chevrolet until about 65 with the 4 bolt side cover Muncie 3-speed transmission, was a light duty unit that had a 3 pinion planetary. The R-11 went into service in 66, and was a stronger unit with a 4 pinion planetary. This is the one used with the 7 bolt side cover Saginaw 3-speeds, and is the one used to do the 4-speed Saginaw with overdrive conversion. The R-10 won't "fit". If I'm incorrect, sorry, and please fill me in. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
