thanks I flipped the rear axle on top of the springs in the rear and did a small in frame notch. It dropped it bout 5-6 inches in the rear. The front is still in the works. So far I have had my stock leafs reversed and dearched it dropped it bout 3 inches. If you need any more info or advice pm.

I must be one of the few that doesn't like the big back window. I think it is tacky and poorly done. It doesn't follow the lines of the truck right and the trim is gaudy. Jm2C. FOmoCOpower I really want some measured demensions ot the wheels on your truck. That is the exact offset I am looking for and am more than willing to get some made.

Well, since we're being honest, i think the beds on unibody trucks looks like ass. and not in a good way:) here's the pic of my truck.

This makes me really want to build my truck. But my health just isn't going to allow it. Check out my ad on the HAMB. I like the big back window. Lil Timmy that is a nice conversion. Thought about building one myself. A panel built from a 61 Unibody would be neat as well. I still think that is how the Unibiody came to be. Tooling was already done, and 60 Panel sales were way down. Not to hard to imagine a slight retooling to save money.

To a point I agree with you. I like the wheel openings but wish the body line was straight like the fleet sides. It would be a cleaner look. Maybe one of these days I will build a hybred since I have a pair of long bed uni bed sides that I rescued after someone made it a trailer.

WOW ... a couple Uni haters .... I think that the SWB Uni is one of fords most innovative styles in a flat side truck.

Every time HAMB member "Whitey Ford" posts progress pix of HIS (my old) uni I wonder if I did the right thing by selling it & buying a long awaited '46 ford cpe.

FoMoCoPower, how much of a drop is that? It fills the wheel wells perfectly

I am in no way a hater. I love my truck but i DO have my own opinions on the look. I am also a 3rd gen uni owner. My dad has a 61 sitting on a mid 70's 4wd chassis an g-paw had a 63 that was bone stock and beautiful with 26k on it when he died in 95. The uni will always be my favorite just for the memories.

Since I see someone brought this thread back up guess I should throw pics up of mine. Sold my daily driver 57 Ranchero a couple weeks ago:( so started looking for a new truck for a daily/ shop truck. Found this one for sale, been sitting a long time. 292, 3 speed, other then the wheels and mirrors it's as original as Ford built it. The price was, well... real right so I bought it. I must of swept/ washed 300 lbs of blow dirt out of it but luckily very little rust. Got it running this week, a couple engine issues to deal with but every thing else seems to work great. Just plan on putting stock wheels/ hubcaps and mirrors on it, get the motor running smooth and drive it like it is for now.
I always had a thing for 57 F-100s but the more I look at this Uni I just might have to part with my 57 project truck, this one might be the keeper!

Ahhhhhhhh .... ya gotta bring that merc back to life. Those are as rare as hens teeth!!

The red/white big back window is kick ass Chris. Don't let that one go.

Both need to be lowered closer to the ground though ....

You can either buy a dropped beam or you can remove springs from the spring pack, install a monoleaf or flip the beam to the top of the springs.

I pulled all but 3 of the leafs out of the spring pack and it sits pretty nice. I have about 9" of clearance between the bottom of the bumper and ground. It made the leaf pack flatten out completely.

Or you can buy one of his axles.

  29. Time to make some progress on the 62 this winter. Just picked up a 429/C6 and a Volare front end to go in her. Anyone else have anything new?

Jusr got started on my 62 short box uni. Camaro front sub, c-notched the rear, flipped the rear axle and moved the rear spring mounts. It's getting a 472 caddy. Just rolled it out to see how it sits. Now it needs to be torn apart to finish everything. I am going to use non uni doors and replace the upper skins with some rotted out uni door skins. Just bought a nice $30 dollar tailgate and auto column on sunday at the roadster swap in MN. Here are some pics.
