Official Model A & T Hinge Info Thread.

  1. Here's a pic of a full set of original 1928-1929 Model A 1/2 ton truck hinges. These are very hard to come by, and are currently not being reproduced. The door side of the hinges are similar to Model T's except inside of the pin barrel cup (the location where the pin barrel sits) on an A truck it's width is 1.375 on a Model T it's 1.400. The top hinge as you can see is a completely different design than a T's on the cowl side, it has 3 tapped holes on a flat face, this is only used on a '28-'29 A truck and not on any other model's. On model T's the door sides have a stamp(SW) or (Stanley Works), yes that Stanley hinge works that still manufactures common household door hinges you can find at your local hardware store!. The stamp is not present on 1928-1929 Model A truck hinges although, the construction between the two are very similar. (In the pic below,(middle pic) the two top A truck hinges still need boogered, smashed screw heads removed, but you get the idea about design.)

  2. The arrow points to the common location for an SW or Stanley Works logo stamped on the door side of the Model T hinges. Model A's do not have the stamp.

The item to the left as far as I know is from a Model T hinge and the other belongs to a Model A pickup.
    I have both a 29 Model A pickup and a 27 Model T coupe.

As we all know Henry Ford did not waste parts during year changes so it maybe that some parts crossed over.

It also maybe that somebody needed a part that worked for them and they used what they had or could find.

Great presentation of your hinge sets, that will help folks picture what they have...

  4. This is a top cowl post hinge half from a 1926 Model T coupe.

I think you will find that the hinge you posted is for the 1926 T and the one I have just posted is for the 1927 T.

  6. Yes. I fat-fingered it:eek: haha. It is a 1926 only finger style coupe with a 90 degree angled tail. The '27's are exact same dimensions, angled tail, hole locations with the exception of it being a barrel design vs. a finger style.

There are those repro hinges that are sold in Australia, but they have no holes drilled.
I believe they are made as part of the after market closed cab model A pickup that is sold by www.roadsteruteimc.com

  8. I saw those in your #6 post. I've heard about them before, construction is close but they only sell them in one length with no holes, you have to drill/tap holes and cut to length. I haven't seen just the hinges advertised for sale in any of the larger aftermarket suppliers. Might be a different story in Australia. You might be able to get them online through a google search or trough a roadsteruteimc.com dealer. I know there is one in California.

( You can get parts from roadsteruteimc.com through their US networks. Namely So-cal speed shop in CA, Sacramento vintage ford and a few others.)

  9. Here are the differences between '28-'29 Model A roadster door hinges and '30-'31 Model A roadster door hinges. The '28-'29's have two holes on each piece similar to the '26-'27 Model T roadster door hinges but, the model A's door side have an angular cut to them on one side on the bottom hinge half which the T's don't. And they are a flat design, no dips, bumps or creases on them for clearance with door and body fitment. The pic on the left is a set of '28-'29 Model A roadster door hinges. These are also used on the open cab model a 1/2 ton truck. The pic on the right shows a set of '30-'31 Model a roadster door hinges. The '30-'31's have 3 mounting holes on the cowl side vs. the '28-'29's 2 hole. The '30-'31's are a little longer length wise too. The '30-'31's have angular creases in them for door/body clearance, the '28-'29's do not. These are also the same hinges that are on the '30-'31 roadster pickup.
