Official X-Frame (58-64 Chevy) Pic thread!

That's what I always thought. I don't remember seeing those 59 or 60 Pontiacs doing that and they had the X frame...

 

Believe it or not, my hot rod Model A was built on a shortened 1961 Chevrolet frame. I even used a part of the floor pan for the rear of the floor of the body.
It wasn't too pretty and certainly no engineering marvel; but it did serve as my year round daily driver for more than six years... wind, rain, snow, hell or high water!
The 1965 original FI Corvette engine with the solid lifters was quick, too!
A co-worker's wife heard me talking about the hot rod one day and chimed it that her husband loved that car... who knew?! I had already purchased and switched to a replacement daily driver... a chopped 36 Ford three window, so I followed up and sold the old hot rod to the co-worker's husband and he was happy as a lark!
I was, too.

My dad bought this Impala when I was 14 in 1996. We tore it down and cleaned it up, new interior, new trim, etc. I painted it when I was 15, and that's still the paint on it today. We share it and have fun with it every year. Started life as a 283, now has a 327, and still runs a PG.

When my friend’s dad was thinking of a new Chevy sedan, he went to look at the local dealers in Long Beach. The closest dealer was near our high school, a few blocks away, and was handy to stop to check out the sedans. What his son wanted was a car that could be used as a teenage cruise car to go along with his black and white 55 Chevy.

So, we were trying to get his dad to buy a 409 model Impala with a 4 speed, SS seats and extras.

We already had a friend with a red 409 Biscayne model and this would be a good match up with that Red model. Plus, it would be paid by his dad and not come out of his pocketbook. Things were looking good when my friend’s dad sat in the bucket seats. So, we thought the extra power was just icing on the cake.

After a week of looking at 63 Chevy models, a Turquoise Green two door Impala was sitting on my friend’s driveway. When I came rolling around the corner, it was smiles across my face…YES!!!

So, without inspecting it, I went in to talk to my friend. He was happy it was a new 63 Turquoise Impala, but not happy it wasn’t a 409. He had a chance that his dad would get the 409 model, but it had a 327 with a four barrel carb.

Well, it was not an SS model with bucket seats and a 4 speed, 409 motor, but at least it had A/C. That hot Summer was perfect for cruising around in an A/C car. We made do with what was available. For the hot Summer/Fall nights, the A/C was great, even though it was … “Daddy’s car again?” At least, we were the “coolest” guys on the cruising scene. YRMV

 

A couple of x-frame cars I have built...just sold the '64 last November...fun to do. The '62s
were both 4 speeds, one with a 409" and the other with a 327". The '64 was a 425hp, 4 speed, posi.

And yeah, I knew this thread was a decade old, but I've only had the car 6 months...
