I have a 51' 8ba flathead with vintage fenton heads and a fenton 2x2 intake, the carbs are to far forward to mount my generator in the stock position, and i cant use an offset bracket because the water outlets will be in the way. Any ideas or pictures of what you have done?

    thanks

You need the ofset generator mount made for the 8BA engine. It bolts to the intake stud and not to the head bolts. Speedway has them.

Speedway also sells water necks with a different angle, and aluminum elbows, if you need to go around the generator.

just flip the water outlet upside down so it sticks straight out... and run a U bend of pipe and a short hose so it bends out and around your generator... i still used the stainless pipe. It works slick.

I have a weiand intake and weiand offset gen with edmunds heads...

sorry mike, I disagree. if you have a look at the photo , this is psychobilly boi's ride, and I used an early 24 stud offset bracket here as the late brackets mean you need to alter your water outlets.

all I did was get some allthread to make the bolts out of, I made 3/4" pipe spacers to get the bracket above the water outlet and put it all together.

didnt have to alter any water outlets etc.

    too easy!:D

sorry the photo is a little blurry, but you get the idea.

Another thing about Flatoz's suggestion: Right and left early brackets are not symmetrical mirror images, they are completely different because they are intended for different applications. The other kind puts the gen way down the head, perhaps useful here.
On the other hand, the aftermarket tube and thermostat castings to make the regular '49-53 offset work are also readily available.

Speedway has them, as mentioned above. I bought one a month ago, seems like it was about $39.00.

I just flipped the thermostat housing upside down. Everything clears.
BTW...I have the same intake running 94's and a generator.

Bruce, if I have what your saying correct, yes your right the early offset brackets are different, as are the 8BA sided too.

However with an 8BA you cant use the opposite side early 24 stud bracket to the photo I posted coz of the dizzy being in the way. I looked at this and it was more h***le, I had a ( standing facing the car) right hand side bracket and with just some pipe spacers and all thread the problem was solved.

I did try to use the offset 8BA genny bracket on psychos ride and it wouldnt fit. seems the super dual set up has the carbs that far forward and the genny even with the 8BA offset bracket was going to touch the front carb and just make it a pain to get to if you had to do any adjustment to the carb.

So it was just easier to come up with this, as everyone who has ever put a set of duals knows there is always some trial and error on getting the set up just right for your particular ride. So my thinking was that best to beable to access the carbs easily without having to pull the genny first.

plus , I personally think the gennys look the ducks guts sitting out the side like that.

  12. I have to say that FlatOz did a great job on this for me. The gennie clears the carbs making it easy for me to access them and the gennie looks killer to the side. Its also in far anough that i can run a hood without it interfering.

    Thanks Flat!

I just found this post, and have been struggling with the process of all the trial and error. I want to have this on my favorite subscriptions, so I'm replying. :)
