Anyone running a Offenhauser alum. flywheel (new) ? Lookin to up grade My clutch and flywheel . I have a vintage Schieffer for a early flattie but need a one for a late flattie. My ?'s, are they balanced , how do they perform with no insert. Is it worth the 300 bucks. I know you get what you pay for, just looking for options. thanks
I had a schiefer in my 59a motor and loved it. Stock clutch and pressure plate but it had an insert. Everyone told me I would loose rpm on the street but man that thing flew and it was so responsive. I would run one again in a heartbeat.
Depends what it's going in - light car & low gears, you can get away with it pretty easily. Heavier car or higher gears and you may end up slipping the clutch quite a bit. I wouldn't run one on the street w/o an insert ever. A simpler & much cheaper alternative is to lighten the stock iron flywheel - you can get them down to about 22lbs - which still works with a heavier car if the flatty is in good shape.
I would pay a little more for one with the inset. But then, I have not used one without an inset. I just picked a new one up on e-bay for $350 plus shipping. They have them listed regularly. They are for the 8BA. Haven't used it yet. Neal
Back in the day, aluminum 'wheels were for racing. No "bottom" on the street. A light enough car, like an AV8, it would work, but I wouldn't use one.
