Offy heads on a flathead

    Hey guys which is the best way to install offy alum. heads on flathed? Should be suds I gather but is there some way to protect the head from damage?

    I ***ume you mean studs.. yes studs are a good Idea on aluminium heads.
    you'll have to clarify what you mean by protect from damage..what damage?

    Studs are good and all that. I will say that after the heads have been on for a while they can be very hard to get off of the studs. For that reason I prefer bolts. Either way you will need good hardened washers. Not the hardware stort surfach hardned kind but the good tool steel (ARP) hardened through that dont bend.

    I agree with Rich. Bolts make it easier to get the heads off later. Use hardened washers.

    The right way would be the right side up with either studs or bolts....and no suds involved, even on a 'clean install

    don't forget to re-torq after use.....doesn't hurt to re-check every so often for first few thousand miles
