I am thinking of going away from the Hemi Idea for the new 'plane... Anyone got any good shots of Offy powered cars? Especially engine compartment pics... Thanks! Mike
Whaaaat? What happened, Mike? You find a big bag of money in the box with that new oil pan? Theres a Miller-Offy website with a cl***ified section. They advertise engines and parts for sale, but its at the level where they dont even mention prices. However, I have seen a guy drag a motor and gearbox out of a boat out to Pomona, maybe at the next one?? Lance
You can always go for the FAKE offy look. (Don't start into the FAKE vs. REAL. At least it's not a Chevy with Hemi valve covers!) Recently Jaguar and Alfa twin cam inline engines have been used as facilimies of offy engines. A big-time builder of reproduction Indy cars uses doctored up Alfa engines as replacements for Offys in there replicas. I'd think that some of the Mercedes and early '70s Datsun engines with their smooth cast aluminum valve covers could also be doctored up to look like period racing engines. Also, Cosworth and Lotus engines have a similar valvetrain and cam cover to the Offy engines. Look around, alternatives for replicas exist without spending mucho bucks.
[ QUOTE ] reguardless what engine you run, i think your oil pan should look something like this! [/ QUOTE ] Now That's funny!! maybe you should change your name to skidplate
Here I digged out some old ones Hot Rod June '52 has an very good and detailed article about the 270 engine.
Here's one I drew in Autocad....1/8 scale. It's an identical copy Of a Leo Goossen/Meyer & Drake ***embly drawing from 1950.
Front view. This is the drawing that ch***is builders would use to make sure all this junk was gonna fit their frame and bodywork. It looks MUCH better on paper than it does here....
If you want to hear some Offys' check this site out: http://www.milleroffy.com/Photo%20%20Sound%20Gallery.htm#Sounds For hours of listening pleasure.
