Maybe the response was negative and the punishment was swift.
I hope we see Brian again........

Well who’s going to be in charge of his memorial service then?

I have seen pictures of them on car haulers going to the dealers and you could see the paint on the front clip didn't match the body. The front clips were painted separately from the bodies, and paint matching was a **** shoot.

I envy you the opportunity to say 'no' to buying that '62 Impala. I've always loved them and chased one particular SS for a number of years until the chance to own it disappeared.

True, painting two different colors in the same booth at the same time. This is from '59 at Chevrolet. I toured the Kansas City Ford plant in '57 and the paint booth is one of the things I remember most clearly. There were half a dozen guys spraying different colors on parts, not completed bodies. No wonder you got differences in paints.

I chased a 62 SS for several years and finally ended up with it a year or so ago. But, it was about too late when I actually got it. Car had been sitting on the ground for way too long and the trunk floor and floorboards pretty much stayed there when I jacked it up to put tires on... Decided to send it down the road to someone more energetic than me when it comes to fixing rust.

Anyway, hope you can come to an agreement on price. Looks like a great car!

I have approval from the CFO, with the caveat, "That's a totally frivolous purchase". To which I replied, "We're almost 70, every purchase we make is frivolous." Then she said, "You've got to finish the 'bird and sell it then." Uh-huh...

Life intervened. Our contractor in Sarasota (a carport addition) sent me a statement, which I promptly paid. Sunday evening he called to tell me that the address on the statement was his former residence, where is X still resides (recent split), and "...she's crazy..." "Great", I said, "I sent your crazy X $15K. Glad I did that." I was so frustrated I'd called my friends to tell them I couldn't do anything until I got that mess cleaned up. Which a trip to the bank, a stop payment order, and a wire transfer to the guy took care of. I guess it's worked out because there are crew there today doing finish carpentry, the cement guy finished up the driveway and the roofers will be there tomorrow.
Now the car owners are on a road trip to their daughters in Arkansas, but it'll happen when they get back. I'm excited.

I'm mostly glad the contractor is FINALLY getting things done. It's frustrating not being there. Things move at a different pace in the Sunny South...

Oh boy! I'm meeting tomorrow with the owner of the Impala to go over the car, and figure out what amount we can both live with. We're meeting he and his wife for dinner on Monday. I moved money around, have approval from my wife, so I think the stars are aligning. He's had it for 35+ years, and I think is ambivalent about letting go. On the construction front, the carport is nearly done, the roofers are scheduled to be there today, lots of things are looking up.

Totally frivolous purchases are the only things that I get excited about anymore. Well, almost the only thing.
I've bought car stuff lately that I won't even admit on the HAMB, much less to any family members.
Hell, my kids would file papers on me if they knew what I was buying these days.

And I just turned 71 a few weeks ago.

I know the feeling. Just bought another one myself. Not friendly for here, final year C3. Wanted a C2, but couldn’t find one in my price range. Didn’t need it, but you don’t live forever and you can’t take it with you, might as well enjoy it now because we never know when that last day will be….

Just saw this post today for the first time.

Gotta say I love 61 and 62 Chevys!! Glad you are buying it. Cant wait to see what you do with it and more pictures.
I think a repaint (with your skills) on that fender would be a piece of cake.
    Patiently waiting......

It's MINE! Went and checked it out more closely today. It's an SS with buckets, some of the emblems are off but everything is in the trunk. The seats are original vinyl, he dyed them 30 years ago, they really should be recovered but I kinda like the "survivor" look it has overall. The paint is likewise 30+ years old, 20 foot. The top has some flaking, he said he had to store it outside under a tarp for a couple of years and the paint suffered. 454, Crane "Fireball" cam, he said he'll come up with the cam card. New exhaust, new brakes, not power, no power steering, no A/C. Chrome is decent, the grill and headlight trims are dull, he said it was an Arizona car, looks weathered. He's had it since '79, his dad bought it in '75 or '76 for his older brother, who sold it to him when he was going to college and needed $$. In the past 20 years, since he put the 454 in it, he said he's driven it less than 200 miles. I thought he'd told me it had a 700R4, but it's a 400 TH, rebuilt with a shift kit. The only thing I was disappointed to learn was it has 4:11 gears, but it's a Posi, and he said he has the original 3:55 (I can't remember exactly, but mid 3's).
I'll probably repaint the roof at least, maybe the whole car, but then the chrome and stainless will look bad, it's all matchy-matchy patina now, I'm thinking it's good as is. It would be pretty easy to make a lady out of it, but it has personality AS-IS. It mostly needs some tuning and to be driven. Sounds great, lopey idle, deep exhaust note, looks exactly like what I wanted in high school. I'm pretty jazzed.
