    What? No update last night?????

You damn slacker! Get back to work!

    :D

  8. Well, I ran into a snag with the front axle. I have a '41 chevy truck axle. It is too narrow at the spring center. The springs will end up being too close to the engine. I really want the springs to mount below the frame not to the inside.

So I have a drop tube axle that has the wrong angle on the king pin. It is about 2 degrees off. I have thought about bending it to the correct degree.

What I was also thinking about was making my own straight axle with no drop. I would remove the king pin mount on the tube axle and weld it on the new straight tubing at what ever width I want and at the proper angle.

Personally I don't see a problem with making my own axle. It's not rocket science.

I have been preoccupied with the Auto Fair that we have here this week so I have been gathering up stuff to sell so I can fund this project more.

Darryl, Get your lazy ass down here and help:D

    Later,

Measurments? I have an axle that could be the one. I can measure it when I get to the shop, just give me an idea of what you need it to be.

Man this is a great thread, been following since the begining. Lots of nice work. Thanks for all the up pics., and updates.

  11. I'm hooked on this thread...really hopin' you eliminate the high beams and run the cold air tubes...thunderlark? skybolt? who cares this thing is gonna be awesome...

  12. I need the center of the spring to be 31 1/2" -32" and the width of the axle to be narrow. I think from wheel mounting surface to WMS around 56"-58".

Oh, it would be beneficial if it was Chevy style. I already have my wheels.

Let me know what you have.

    Thanks,

  13. I really think that this will be the direction I will go. I would love to find a small headlight that has both high and low beams in one. I need to see whats out there.

    ...Electralark....?

    Well I got 2 out of 3...

    32" center of springs.
    5 x 4 3/4 drums.
But it looks to be about a 61" WMS.

Technically the low beams should already be a dual filament bulb with highs built in. That's why hi beams only have 2 prong and lows have 3. On high you get the extra lights, plus the lows go to their high filament.

What you should do is look into rewiring so that when you're on high, both filaments are lit. Factory setup doesn't use both at once. It'll shorten bulb life if you're a chronic hi beamer, but otherwise will compensate for the lack of extra high bulbs.

    good luck

  17. Wow! Thanks alot for this bit of info!! That just made up my mind.

HI, I like where your going on your car. The aftermarket tube axles are nice as you can put your axle pads were you want. Im a fan of the parallel leafs (over transverse) in a nose up car for lots of reasons. The geometry is better, no hair pins to locate which get in the way sometimes, easier to set inclination of axle,no panhard bar neede, and sometimes easier on the bump steer. Just some thoughts.:D

OK, what's up with the progress? Is everything on hold because Heather came home? Did the Auto Fair upset your rhythm? Don't take it to heart just because I told you in the South we take our time. You were going at warp drive, don't quit now. Do something and give us an update.

This seems like a really good idea (which it is) the only problem is that those Fords had really big hubs on the front and it might not look right on a 60's style gasser car. If this is fine with you so be it, but it is also hard to find nice wheels that the center caps will clear the long hubs.

  23. I'm actually getting ready for the Lone Star Roundup. I am driving my Plymouth so I've got a ton of things I have to take care of before I leave.

I kinda put the Skylark on hold for about two weeks but I have been picking up things to continue as soon as I get back from Texas.

Thanks for everything at the Auto Fair!! I had a great time!!

    Updates soon...I hope.

  24. Are you goping to at least try to fix that noise coming out of your tail pipes? It sounded like it was missing 2 clylinders. Oh well. You'll probably make it.

Man I wish I could go wit ya.

Tudor, you're a Peach! Does size matter? Some can get by with 6 while others want it bigger. I was once asked "who are you going to please with that?", the reply was "ME BITCH".

Good luck on the trip Ron. Take a laptop and keep us posted.
